5k service
What does your dealer do? I've had service in Las Vegas, KCMO, and Austin Texas. In Vegas and KCMO they have a check list of everything they check and what additional work might need to be done, even if you just bring your LX in for a oil/filter change they check all fluids check for leaks, measure brake pads, belts, hoses, etc. in Austin they just do the oil/filter change. Anyone else see this? What is your experience? When I pay $100 for a oil/filter change from a Lexus dealer I expect them to check my vehicle out not just change the oil.

Just got my 5K done last week and a tire rotation was the only major thing done. No oil change till 10K on Lexus vehicles running pure synthetic oil so they are basically checking air pressure, checking fluid levels, looking for leaks. There is a list of things to be done on the Lexus website. It took them about 30-40 minutes and that included wash and vacuume.
These extra things your dealer does are likely standard looking for $omething to replace. At 5K
First my 5K and 10K are free. I have a choice to get a rental car or wait on the 5K.

I trust that your oil change will include a curtesy inspection but they are not obligated. It they see something they can make money on or sell you, you can bet it will be mentioned. As far as doing everything that they would do in a 5k, not seeing it when you just pay for an oil change.
$100 is cheap for a oil change at the dealer. The other items you would like done will be accomplished at your next schedule.

Like you go in for a oil/filter change and brake fluid change and they don't tell you your back brake pads are almost gone? I would expect if Jiffy lube checks all the fluids and filter etc. that a Lexus dealership would do even better. That's a revenue stream!!! You ID service needs and recommend them to the customer. Almost every Lexus dealership I've used and I have been to more then my fair share. Owned over 10 Lexus almost every model. Do a complete check of the vehicle and then recommend items that need to be taken care of, from wiper blades to brake pads, etc. I'm just amazed that Lexus of Austin does not. I feel sorry for some owner that does not get as involved in their vehicle maintance as I do, they will end up needing new rotors when their brake pad wear out and ruin the rotors. I don't blame the advisor or the tech its dealership management. Poor leadership!

Sorry but going in for. $100 oil change is not going to get all you want. I would not expect anything except an oil change if I did the same at my Lexus dealer.
Well the GM at my Lexus dealership contacted me apologized for miss information and he has personally noted my account that any time any of my Lexus' are brought in for even an oil/filter change all measurements and checks will be made. He also gave me a $100 credit towards my next service. This is the kind of service I've come to expect from Lexus. I see your point about checking everything but safety items that only take moments is a mistake plus a lost sales opportunity. When a tech has your LX on the rack I don't expect them to check the diff fluid level or transfer case but if they look like they are leaking, check and advise. Same with any physical damage. Only takes a moment to eye ball brake pads if you are a tech you can estimate pad width in moments. I don't expect them or even want them to pull the air filter out, I change it based on how dusty it is where I live (check it myself) But when I come in and at 30k miles request my drive shaft to be lubed and re-torqued per the manual and the tech states on my work order not required, looks OK and the Service advisor tells me that they never do this service and it's not required by Lexus on the newer LX's it bothers me!! That will be fixed at my next service, and the GM apologized for that happening. I will use a different Service advisor on my next visit. All I want is a common sense business transaction. I realize some Lexus dealers pad their profits by offering the "30k mile service package" for $369.00. That's for the dumbass with more money then brains. If you look in the book at the 30k mile service you see that it's "change oil/filter" change brake fluid" "rotate tires" (by then you have replaced them and get free rotation where you bought them,) change air filter. Everything else is a bunch of no work looking at stuff they call it checking!! I over maintain my vehicles! I use synthetic and change every 5k miles. I normally change air and air conditioning filters at half the required interval. I will change the diff's and transfer case at around 40k miles even though it's a Mall cruiser and per the owners manual never should require changing. Lexus X mile services don't work for me. I spend a lot of money with Lexus and expect "work to be done when I spend money.

My experience is the service adviser makes all the difference. My dealer has three. When I first visited with my 470 way back in 2006 the service adviser I saw screwed things up. I was new to the area and didn't have any knowledge of the other two advisers. My next visit I happened to end up with the same adviser and again he screwed things up. I complained while I was there and the dealership comped me the service.
My following visits I made it a point to use a different adviser. All positive experiences over the next 8 years and change of vehicles.
My favored adviser was promoted, good for her, and the last two visits I was forced to use a third adviser (the first one is still there). One visit was OK, the visit last week they screwed up. I complained before paying the bill and again the dealership comped the service. I'm not sure what I'll do now. I may stay with #2 or try the new addition. For sure won't go back to #1.

Yep - the service adviser is key. I always set my appointments with the same adviser that I have dealt with for years. He is one of the reasons I keep buying Lexus vehicles. If he is on vacation or has a day off - we schedule accordingly.
