Genesis vs LS
And let's not forget that for the first time ever, this year, the Genesis G-90 toppled Lexus in the J. D. Power dependability survey for 2020 models. A first in the 31 year history of J. D. Power surveys....... Lexus was ranked in second place, surprise, surprise....OOOOooooh, noooooooo, please tell me it isn't so; but it is ladies and gentlemen!

I've only seen 3 G90s in the wild. Hyundai has always had one of the best warranties and the cars have been very good. I would expect for the flagship Luxury model to be top notch. It will just take time to convince ppl to commit to a brand in it's infancy. Time will tell though.
It is extremely significant, because as time goes on, they will only get better. And let us not forget KIA who is also right there behind them with the KIA 900. Not as good perhaps as of yet, but the operative word here is "yet"........ They are part of the same mother company, (or mother ship as I would like to call it), as well, and if Hyundai can do it, (and they did), with the Genesis brand, so will KIA. It's coming........Do you remember the Telluride (2020 Motor Trends' SUV of the Year)! Let us also not forget KIA's Stinger (same thing at that time-car of the year). That was a good start for that part of the market segment as well! Next comes the Genesis GV 90 SUV.
All they need to do is establish an independent "luxury" dealership network Lexus style to differentiate themselves from Hyundai and they are up and running. They are in, in the thick of things and with a better warranty coverage. Just saying......I remember when people were laughing at them when they first came our with the Equis........ha, who is laughing now!

The gap in quality is gone or at the very least is a lot less than it used to be. I am very happy there are new contenders. Hopefully this will push Toyota/ Lexus to try harder. Good for everyone in the market for a new vehicle!
It seems that the G70 is carrying the brand right now. G90 sales are so low no wonder I have only seen 3. I kind of liked the way it looked on the outside except for maybe the headlights. How long will a manufacturer stick with a model with sales so low?
The G90 just got a big investment in a refresh, and it sells well in Korea so I don't think that its going anywhere.
Thats a great point! Sales in the USA were around 2500 cars per year except in 2017 when it was around 4200. Is that sustainable? Maybe not, but you can’t phase out the brand flagship. The large four door sedan market has been shrinking year after year. Everyone is buying SUV’s. It’s a changing market but I don’t see it disappearing. The S550 is not going anywhere and MBZ is so big and successful they will never eliminate their flagship model.
I know they have to be in it for the long haul since lots of money is invested and I also like the thought of having something exclusive. It's always good to have competition to sort off keep the other players on their toes. I was alluding to US sales and I think the car has to at least be visible on the roads or commercials to be able to gain some traction. I have not even seen a commercial or ad on tv or online which would get ppl talking or thinking about the G90 specifically. I know we talk about it in forums but we are a very small segment of buyers. PPL spend more time updating their social media status other nonsense online (IMO) but have no time for real conversations or doing research on their own, especially Americans. I asked the question because I remember Infinity discontinuing the Q45 which was their flagship model.
As long as the vehicle continues to sell well in South Korea and the G-70 continues to carry the Genesis brand here, even if the G-90 sells in small numbers the company will continue to carry the line. After all, its their "flagship" vehicle. Throw in the fact that the brand is number one in J. D, Power reliability charts for the year model 2020, (actually taken into consideration the last three model years 2017-2020), and the car isn't going anywhere(not to mention the monies invested in this year's "refresh").
In my opinion, the biggest stumbling block in all this is, that Genesis does not have a "luxury dealership network" all of its own. $100,000 thousand dollar car buyers do not like to be seen and to be taken care of in dealerships and environments that sell Elantras, and Sonatas. To their credit, they want the whole package, which at this time, it is missing in the Genesis brand. That is a huge deterrent/strike against the brand.
But to your gentelmen's point earlier, the low volume sales, also provide a certain amount of exclusivity. You are driving something that is not that common on the streets. Besides, truly now, how many and how often does one see Lexus LS on the streets as well? Perhaps a few more than G-90s, but not that many.

Your right I don't see lots of 460s on the road either but Lexus has already made their mark. I'm going to make it a point to find a Hyundai dealership with a G90 so I can test drive it and check out the interior.
I think it would certainly be worth your time. And you are absolutely right sha4000, Lexus has already established itself as a brand; I just hope they don't sit on their laurels for too long and become complacent. The Lexus LS 500 has to some extend drop the ball in terms of plushness and absolute ride quality from what people who test drove them said. Never-mind its interior size. OOOoooppps!!!!! And now they are no longer #1 in the J. D. Power survey, something that they pretty much own for years. It was almost a given for them......Not anymore. Time to wake up and up their game or else.........
In my area, I see a few 460's, but I have only seen one LS500 and one G90 in the past 9 months or so. Also, try to do a test drive back to back with the LS500 and the G90. That way you can experience both cars and do a better comparison. When you do, please post your thoughts on this thread. I'd be interested in your perspective.
