Default Side mirror housing loose

Hello, my driver's side mirror housing moves back and forth over 1/4". There is no housing movement up & down, so, I am good there. Do I fix this issue by taking apart the side mirror, or, by taking off the door panel ??? And what is the actual fix once I access the problem spot ??? Thanks for your upcoming replies.

There is a fix i think may help you. The screws used are replaced with longer ones. There is a write up here just search for it. You have to order the right screws first. You pop the mirror off and than remove the housing. My drivers side did something like that so i replaced the screws on both sides.

I'm not sure that fixes his problem. I think I have the same issue. When the mirror is fully extended out and locked in place, there is a bit of play folding it back in and out. The mirror base that is attached to the door is solid with no movement. It just feels like one of the gear teeth is missing when extended fully out, most likely worn over the year from manually folding the mirror in or getting hit/bumped into.

Perhaps. Before i redid my screws my drivers moved when it was a bit windy or down a highway. Back and forth was very noticeable at times.

Did either of your two replace the screws??

Other than that my drivers mirror will shake at highway speeds just a little.

Have not replaced the screws since it does not bother me that much. I only really think about it when I'm washing the car and bump a mirror.
