Starter Replacement
I ran into this video series and wanted to share it here. Its a 5 part series. I watched them all and have to say its very good. The guy is a bit comical but he shows and explains what it takes to do a replacement. I linked Part 1 and you can follow the rest from there. Thought it might be helpful for those who want to tackle it themselves.
That's a real good video for starter replacement and shows you how to change the motor mounts. It's actually how I changed the mounts on my 400 will the help of my boy. Lift the engine and pull down the cross member. That top nut on the drivers side caused a lot of aggravation.
Just thought I'd share. Im pretty much a DIY type of person so after my starter went out last saturday, I decided on trying to tackle this myself. All I can say is that its not for the faint of hear. I watched the entire video posted and figured it would be a handful. First say took 4 hours to just to remove the starter. Second day took about 3 to put everything back. But the satisfaction of doing it myself is so high, i feel like I just won the lotto. lol
Very satisfying when you can save money and do it right. Replacing the starter is a tough job while working on a lift let alone on your back..... This video should inspire some LS owners to change it without paying a dealership.

A different, but much simpler, way to replace the starter is shared by fellow CL member LS460ride at Posting 22 https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...starter-2.html, including torque numbers and replacement part numbers. There is NO need to remove the front engine components. I followed LS460ride's instruction and replaced my 2008 LS starter in 6 hours on my drive way on jack stands. His approach saves time and is more efficient, and his instruction is more logical, clearer and easier to follow.

Theyre pretty much the same instructions outside of removing the alternator which in my case i'd done before so it only took 15 min to unbolt and just sit to the side. I didnt remove it like in the video. But its a good write up. Only thing about the video is that he does talk a lot and is pretty much working his way throught it as hes doing it so if you watch it, it'll get a little discouraging.
But same thing for me, did mines in my driveway and took around 7 hours total but I spend about 45 minutes trying to remove on of the exhaust bolts near the cat side.
