Default Rusted wheels

I recently purchased a 2009 CPO 460 and all 4 wheels are rusted inside the actual wheel - see attached picture (not my wheel but this is what it looks like). What would cause this and how do I remove the rust?

Thanks

thats actually the rotor hat, not the wheel. if you wish, you can remove the rotors and grind down the rust. then paint over it with POR15 or something in equivalent to prevent rusting.

depends on how recent you bought the car, you can take it back to the dealer to grind down the rust on the rotors. It does impact the aesthetic appeal of the vehicle but not as bad as the rims themselves rusting however...

Depending on how long ago you purchased the car, i'd take it back and see what they say. You really should have mentioned it to the dealer before your deal.

I did not notice it when I purchased the car (3 months ago). But they replaced the rotors after I purchased the car (free of charge) due to excessive vibration when braking. Are the "rotor hats" part of a new rotor or a separate piece that does not get replaced when changing rotors?

Yes, that's part of the rotor. I doubt they replaced them if they're that rusted in a few months. Further, I was told by Lexus that they don't replace rotors under warranty, they just turn (cut) them to true them up. I bought a CPO and that's what they did to mine.

They told me they replaced the rotors and the Lexus.com owners site shows they did replace the rear - "A VIBRATION IS FELT IN FOOT AND SEAT AT HAGHWAY SPEEDS - 43109 200 REPLACE REAR ROTORS". All 4 rotors are rusted the same way. Something does not seem right if they rusted that quickly.

Rotors rust all the time because they are made of iron. What they normally do is add a zinc like coating for appearance so that the area that is not touched by the brake does not form rust.
What probably happed is the rotors they supplied you with were not coated very well and was exposed to rusting which is only cosmetic. It happens and it does not effect the rotor performance.

I wouldn't worry about your rotors, that rust isn't going to do a thing, but your tires look like they only have 10,000 miles left in them...or less.

Mine looked the same, so I cleaned them with a wire brush and painted them with some Rustoleum (black) and they still look like new.....15 minute job. Easy Peasy.
