Default Voice Commands...

I made this sheet to help reference the voice commands on the car. It's much easier to read this while operating a motor vehicle...

Many thanks brt3. This is much more convenient than trying to find the desired phrase in the Help section on the Nav screen. An addition which may be obvious but is one that I use every day is Sat 1, Sat 2 and Sat 3, which is an easy way to change from one group of XM presets to the next. Also on restaurants, you can ask where is the nearest Mexican (or other ethnic choice) restaurant and it will list those.

Glad it helps! Thanks for the additional tips; that's good to know. It's just like learning a (very small) language; once you know the lingo the system works very well. Though I still pray that someone figures out how to work the thing manually and bypass the lockout...

Couple of questions:

My 2004 LS430 Ultra's nav system doesn't have voice commands for a cell phone as the LS460 does. Do more recent LS430's have voice commands for placing phone calls??

I'm curious how well the LS460 recognizes destinations if you say a house number and street name. I can't imagine that it would work well, as even a dedicated software program like Dragon Naturallyspeaking has difficulty with street names unless you specifically "learn it". What happens if it doesn't recognize it? Do you delete it and try again??

Does the 460 have a "learn" mode for voice commands???

About "learn mode" -- yes; it learns voice tags for phone numbers or stored "favorites" in the Nav system. I really haven't had a chance to spend a lot of time trying out all voice commands, but I have to drive about 250 miles on Saturday. I'll play around with the Voice Commands and will report back...

I believe not, the 2005 LS 430s don't have voice commands for bluetooth either...but the ES 350, LS 460 do...must be a Gen V thing.

Since we're talking about the nav system I have this question:

I have a 2004 LS430. When I selecte "route preference" it shows the buttons for "allow freeway", "allow toll road" and a few other choices. If there is a yellow vertical bar on a button what does that mean??? For example, if "allow freeway" has a yellow vertical bar does that mean it is allowing freeways, or not allowing freeways as part of the route???

I leave all yellow bars to give the most choices. The LS460 has more preferences because it is gen five. The factory will leave some turned off so if your dealer didn't change them to yellow that is the first thing you should do. In the LS460 Menu, Setup, turnoff the Voice Recognition guidance feature so you won't hear the refrain "please say a command after the beep" each time you want to try a voice command. There are more voice commands then in the quick guide but practice is necessary...

Actually, after playing with the nav system the last few days it appears that leaving the yellow bars means you are avoiding that option. For example, a yellow bar next to the Freeway bar means the nav system tries to avoid freeways. To get the choice, there should be no colored bar.

I take it back. Leaving the yellow bars on the Route Preference buttons actually means you want that option allowed. No bars means you want the system to avoid using that option.

Can anyone confirm I'm correct? Is this the same way it works on the gen 5 system in the 460?

Can someone post a PDF of the gen 5 nav manual?

Glad it's a help! I have another full page of XM stations (also in easy-to-read format) and I laminated the two together so that one side is voice-commands, the other XM stations...
