Replacement windshield from Satellite - wind noise
Last week got a new windshield from Safelite - FUYAO brand - on my 2005 LS. Now I have significant wind noise at all speeds. Have searched prior posts for possible cause. I put tape across the trim piece on top of the windshield but did not help. Checked position of wipers they are ok. When listening to the noise, it seems like it is just from the way the wind hits the windshield.
Taking to Safelite Monday and they seem to be prepared to replace it. But without a root cause diagnosis, I am concerned it will just happen again.
From what I have read, the Fuyao brand seems to be a good brand and is used as OEM in some brands. There are some posts of LS430 owners using this brand with no problems.
Is it possible that the basic shape of the windshield can cause this? Any other possible causes?
Could be the trim piece on the outside at the top of the windshield. Some users have reported issues with that, and a full rubber (i.e. ugly) trim on the outside helped reduce the noise.
Also, ever since I had FUYAO from Safelite (free from FL Geico), my rain sensors no longer worked--most likely due to refraction characteristic discrepancies between OEM/Pilkington and FUYAO, could potentially be due to shape but I would be hesitant to jump there as the root cause.
When the windshield on my 2005 LS430 cracked I purchased OEM glass and had Safelite install it at my house.
I have never had a windnoise issue after the replacement. I think that the aftermarket glass is to blame for your issues.

Thanks
Just had mine replaced at Safelite with exact same Fuyao windshield. I provided an OEM one piece windshield seal. No leaks, no wind noise and it comes with a better solar tint than the one installed by factory in 2008 and the windshield was FREE under my car insurance.
I'm sure the installation process can have something to do with any wind noise as well as the trim pieces. I had mine replaced with OEM many years ago without a single problem. The biggest problem I've heard with aftermarket windshields has been possible problems with the rain sensor. FYI....The OEM windshield is a $2,000 item.
Yes, yes, there is no such thing as a free lunch. I pay Geico an additional $105.20/year to have comprehensive insurance on my 18 year old Lexus in order to be able to have my windshield replaced with no out-of-pocket cost thanks to a statute in Florida insurance law.
Is that better for you guys?
I wish it'd make sense to go OEM, but $2000+ out-of-pocket compared to $0, there's no comparison for a vehicle I purchased for $4000.
I wish I'd had the energy to force Safelite to use Pilkington, but after a couple of hours of complaining to representatives and managers, I realized there's more important things than my rain sensor working again lol.
Follow up - went to Safelite this morning and they could not figure out cause of wind noise from external inspection so they removed the windshield and reinstalled it. They said the top of the windshield was not sealed correctly, including the trim piece. After reinstallation, the wind noise is now gone. Overall they did a good job fixing the problem.
