My '04 LS430 is psycho. The drivers side window will work fine for months, then, just at the worst time putting it up becomes a chore. It goes down perfectly and will always go down. But every now and then it will fail to go up. Even if I hold the button up (which I shouldnt have to do) . It will rise about 2 inches then turn down immediately 1 inch. Try again and this time it will go up 1/4 inch and stop. Again and it will go up 4 inches than back down 3 inches. All random. Never know what it will do when telling it to go up. Sometimes, pulling over and shutting everything down will cause a reset....BUT sometimes it wont!!!!! Its all random and takes me usually 5 minutes to get it up. When it is cold or raining, this is hell!!!
Anyone have this problem and a solution short of keeping the window up ALWAYS.
These are anti clip/pinch motors so if they feel they are getting resistance when going up, they roll down so they dont squish whatever is blocking the window.
I would say your regulator may need to get lubed or replaced to reduce the resistance that it thinks is a body part stuck in the window! (assuming the switch is okay)

Exactly this, my fiancée's RX300 had the windows sticking and I sprayed some grease in to help them out since I didn't feel at the time like removing the rivets and replacing the regs. The motors are insanely pricey on these cars so you generally only do the actual reg and you need to drill the old rivets out and then re-rivet the motor in the new reg.
Not hard just annoying, try liquid wrench lubricating oil on the tracks and gears/pivots to restore function without removing anything more than the door panel.
