Default Performance gurus HELP!!! Exhaust question...

Disclaimer: I am a performance mod noob so some of these questions might sound stupid but no need for smart a$$ replies. Can't help - keep it to your self. Thanks in advance and a beer is on me for any useful advice.

Y pipe on my 2004 LS430 is rusted and leaking just past the O2 sensors on both sides and instead of buying an OEM I would like to get something custom made.

Question #1: I would like to get a custom exhaust made that would give me a little more power and MAYBE a little more sound keeping in mind that this is a luxury sedan so I'm not really looking to make my LS sound like a mustang. What diameter pipes should I use?

Question #2: For optimum performance does a custom exhaust have to start from the manifold? If it doesnt, can I just have a shop start with thicker pipes where the leak is? If it does can I use one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/MagnaFlow-Ca...481826&vxp=mtr
put sensors in and do custom piping past that cat converter?

Question #3: There seems to be a lot more aftermarket parts available for the GS. Are there any parts interchangeable between GS430 and LS430 with the 3UZ engine?

Thanks tcr101.

Mod I've created a thread in a GS Performance section. Hopefully I get a little more help over there. This can be merged or deleted. Thank you.

Just head out to a muffler shop and have them replace the Y pipe with 2.5 inch piping. but it's your choice if you wanna keep the stock mufflers or go with a after market one. I'm planning to do a custom Y pipe and mufflers in a month or so myself. Hope this helps a bit. Keep your resonator it'll help keep the noise down a bit.

You won't improve on the stock y-pipe until you get into the 300rwhp+ arena. Realistically, you're more likely to lose response at the gain of sound.

Search here and the lextreme forums for JBrady's posts on the subject. He's certainly been there, done that.

Here's just one.
