I 've been having problems with my volume control on the steering wheel for some time. Yesterday had car in for service and told my service advisor about the problem.
He called back in the afternoon and stated I needed a "volume control calibration". I have searched far and wide and have found no info at all on this. This is a 2006 LS 430 with only 32,000 miles. Car is certified till 12/2012.
This is a very reputable dealer in the Los Angeles area and I have always had
great service there. Advisor stated that I didn't need to replace volume control on steering wheel the "calibration" would fix it. He stated it's not under warranty and the charge is $75.00. He said they have to calibrate volume to radio, cd, and tape separately. It is Mark Levinson sound. I know there were problems with the amps in earlier models. I have no other problems with sound system. This just sounds like such an incredible explanation I find it hard to believe. I'm picking up the car this afternoon.
Is this total BS? Any opinions would be appreciated.
Cheers

My problem with the volume control on steering wheel is that sometimes when you push volume up or down it will not move. Other times it will go down and then up when pushing the same button. I am aware of the reset button and how you can clear it by holding it for several seconds. Buttons just do not respond normally.
thanks for your response

turning off and on... but not necessarily a whole bunch of times, i am assuming once or twice in this scenario.
to be really sure, go unhook your negative batter terminal for about 35 mins from your car and then after 35 mins hook it back up and i am willing to bet your problem will be solved

So, I picked my car up and everything is okay with the volume control now.
The service advisor said that they actually take the radio out and reset it in the rear. Working fine now. Hope it stays that way.
Thanks for responses.
