Default Steering Wheel Mounted Volume Control

I'm having a problem with the volume control on the steering wheel mount. I have a 2002 LS430 with the ULP. When I try to adjust the volume via the steering wheel control, it makes a beep sound with no change to the volume (either up or down). I went through the nav display to see if there was a lockout but didn't find anything. Anyone have this problem or know how to fix it?

strange problem. Never heard of it before. Does it do the same thing with radio, CD? tape? or just one source?

Does anything happen when it beeps? My mom's LS430 used to do the same thing when I tried to adjust the volume. I'm sure someone knows the answer to this. I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

If you have the phone system in your car those controls work the phone and not volume on the radio.

Are you maybe in the wrong "mode"? In other words, is it possible that when you are in a different control mode the volume control controls something other than the volume?

I had a similar problem recently on a 2004 LS (with Nav, which may be important). The dealership was stumped and had the car for 9 days. The fix that they came up with was not supposed to be used in a 2004 model but it could be the answer for you.

They reset the system which is supposed to be done when a built in phone is removed. My car never had a built in phone and this fix was a last gasp effort by the local folks who were working with national Lexus tech support. It did work and my volume control now works perfectly.

Please understand that some of the terminology I've used may not be exactly correct...but...this 'system reset' whatever that is, did the trick.

Thanks all. I'll see if I can fiddle with the phone settings to get the volume to work (I had not thought about the phone!).

Thumbs up

Well it turns out it IS controlling the phone volume. I do not have a phone service provider (and don't plan on getting one) so the phone just kind of sits there. As you guys suggested, next time I'm at the Lexus Dealer, I'll see if they can transfer it to the audio system. Thanks Alextv and Nelson for the advice.
