Default Steering Wheel Volume Control Problem

I just picked up a 2005 LS430 and noticed the volume control on the steering wheel does not work. Any idea what's the problem?

It's broken... haha...

But seriously, are you pressing the right buttons? The ones on front are channel, first row behind that is volume.

I'm pretty sure you'll get a little change back from the dealer if you gave them $500 to take care of the issue. It cost me $375 to have the dealer replace the left front buttons on my LS.

Does the horn work? I would say your harness is either broken or maybe it had gotten repaired and was not hooked up properly.

some of it might be do to contact corrosion over time - its very typically for these buttons to start working intermittently on older cars as they age. You may be able to spray some electrical contact cleaner into the controls - just be sure to protect the wood and plastic on the wheel and dash with a couple of old towels.

Horn is working. Hmmm is it safe to be spraying in there?

has anyone experience this problem and got it fixed? im about to take tackle this problem myself and would like a few pointers. its not the fuse since the lights light up on the buttoms, my next guess would be lose wires or corroded contact points.

First check 15A fuse on passenger side foot (fuse is on the top in middle row) I don't remember a name of it now.

Read past threads it's not a fuse issue but either contact erosion/rust or need to reboot the radio unit from the back. Not simple, i have same issue now.

I had burned fuse (my radio was fine, I was able to control it by ****, but not by wheel buttons) and this is why suggest to check 15A fuse.

I wonder if reprograming the steering wheel buttons would help. I posted the procedure in the Audio forum maybe 2 or 3 years ago.
