iam looking to buying a 2004. in this car records i dont see anything about a recall on the trans or fuel pump. i checked carfax and my lexus.com. what you guys think ?????? should i get into it or not ???
I don't know if all 04s were subject to those recalls. Recalls usually have a VIN range associated with them. If you entered the VIN on lexus.com and no open service campaigns are listed for the car, you should be OK. Other opinions?
Not really "very early" ones. All built until about the end of Dec 03 - about the first 4 months of production. I had, at one time, the vin range and it probably can be found again. Transmission and fuel pump replaced on separate campaigns up to vin# ending in aprox 150,000.
Sounds like you are making the right moves in terms of preforming due diligence in buying a used Lexus. Also suggest you have the used LS inspected by Lexus dealer before purchase. I know a lot about cars but I think any big ticket expensive car is high risk to buy without a professional inspection.
Yeah, get it inspected first. I got mines inspected at a Lexus dealership and they pulled almost every records that was done to my car. Peace of mind. GL.
Both are important, and I made sure they were both done on my car before I bought it as it fell in the VIN range. It's easy to check for the service on your particular car on the Lexus Drivers site. The fuel pump one is important for everyone, the transmission one not so much in practice but it's important for resale at least.
The good news about the transmission one even if you find it wasn't done is that it was an unusual issue involving the parking pawl potentially breaking when parked on an incline - something that will very likely never be a problem, especially if you use your e-brake when parking on hills as you're supposed to anyway. I read there were only ever two or three cars that suffered the problem and they were all in China.
Lexus was extremely cautious and proactive about it and it cost them an enormous amount of money as their solution was a complete tranny swap with fresh new units, each shipped from Japan. Lexus really went the extra mile on that one; I can imagine the domestics just ignoring it.
just another example of lexus quality ive had at least 28 cars almost as many as i am oldand this is my third lexus a 2004 ls430 ul it had the recalls and were already performed. im impressed
