So the ES is the beater. Usually people use the oldest car as the beater, not the newest...

How about the least expensive, or the one with the least psychological attachment!

Actually, she's been talking about getting a Subaru Forester. The ES just doesn't fit her lifestyle.

I go through a lot of undercarriage washes during the winter months. I typically won't drive the 91LS in the winter unless it's been a few days after a storm and I know the ground / snow is going to stay frozen. So essentially, its a three season car. The 91 looks like a much newer car underneath. I've repainted the vast majority of the undercarriage.

I'll maintain the 430 in the same fashion. It has more aluminum components than the old 91, but I'll be keeping a close eye on it. Luckily the 91 doesn't show any signs of rust...

I am designing something to combat this, but I'm still in the prototype stages. I'll share it here when I have a working model...

From ES to Forester? What is she, a Canadian mountaineer? That's a pretty big change in vehicle off-road capabilities....

^^
I found the Outback to have better driving characteristics than the Forester with nearly as much interior space. However, I was considering last generation versions of both vehicles and I don't care about back seat legroom.

Until recently I had a GX too... I've run out of garage space. I'm working on convincing the other half to let me put up a large barn, but its a slow process.

yodelahehooo! Maybe more like the Swiss Alps... I've seen her pull in the driveway with 10' trees sticking out the back window of the ES. She loves to garden. Once she stuffed a bike in the back seat (we have bike racks, it was an unplanned transport)... I shake my head, but I have to laugh at it.

I think in her case the Forester might work out a little better because it's a bit taller inside than the Outback.

I've suggested that we just buy an old pick-up and keep it around for such occasions, but the jury's still out on that.

If my wife didn't need a lower vehicle to transfer into from her wheelchair, I'd still have a pickup for all that homeowner stuff.
