Dad wants a Mercedes E class, instead of a Lexus LS430
Do any of you like the Mercedes E class, E320 or E430? I hear they will be a revamp for the next model year. I think the Mercedes is a nice car, but not as nice and reliable as the Lexus LS430.
I also think the Mercedes E430 with all the options will also be more expensive than the Lexus.
Any comments or suggestions?
Thanks.

the E is a nice car. My bro drives one and it's pretty nice. All MBs will have little problems like BMW. Reliability wise Lexus is more superior.
Basically LS and E are in 2 different classes. LS has both comfort/luxury and somewhat adaquate performance. E class is alittle less of both. It's also smaller than the LS. With the money, no doubt I'll get the LS. Except for i'm not that age so I'll get a R33 or something.

Thanks for the input, I'd rather get the LS430 for my Dad, but I think he has that notion that Mercedes is the premier brand and they have done great with the Mercedes Brand all over the world.
The Lexus LS is just such a better buy, that I don't want to pass it up, but it's his decision.

Here is one real life comparison.
Early '98, my wife bought GS400 and within a week a friend of mine bought E320. Both at msrp (sob!). Price was the same give or take couple of hundred, with the options listed below.
GS problem(s): Rear door, door ajar sensor messed up.
E320 problems(s): Dead battery in about a year.
GS: More fun to drive and user friendly buttons/*****. Includes 17 in wheels, HID, premium NAK and wing. Rear view (for backing up) poor.
E320: Superior brand image, Seems roomier in the back, solid and secure feeling, sedate driving experience, too many buttons, drop down headrests in the back]. No CD player (would have been in the trunk). No HID, No wing.
Even after 3yrs, when the cars are parked next to each other, the GS looks stirs up emotions [both good and bad]. My friend wishes he had opted for the GS.

No problem at all and thanks for the info. Either way, the Lexus seems like the better choice, but my dad really has it ingrained in his mind that the Mercedes is the permier brand to get.

well ya CSHFLW, if you think MBs are so cool you can go ahead and buy one I think when you sell ur GS you ca probably pick up a well-equipped C230.
I wouldn't get something just for the name. In many cases MB and BMW. Why get a base model C230 or some sort of 323 when you get get a much better Japanese car?
And I prefer a problem free Toyota . What's wrong with it? You're driving one

u can't compare a MB with a Ferrari either... nor w Bentleys...
although i do like benz's, i'd still choose an LS over the E-Class anyday. =) it all boils down to personal preference i guess.
so i guess the what i'm wondering is WHY did u get a Lexus if u prefer Benz's?

But I must admit I will always have a love for japanesse cars....i dunneo why??? And before you go off about relibality....I wont own any car over 50k miles so not an issue.
