Ridiculous Roadside Assistance - Do they even actually exist?
My LS430's SmartKey went DumbKey yesterday.
Suddenly it stopped functioning after lunch. I called the Lexus Roadside Assistance, the lady on the phone kept trying to guess the reason. After a few minutes of ridiculous nonsense with no action ever taken, I hung up and called my family member to bring an extra key, ruining his schedule as well. Then again, the extra key started engine at least but still did not function for lock/unlock. By the time I got to the dealership, the Dumbkey went back to Smartkey again, made me look like an idiot.
Electronic problems related to fancy options can simply be solved by not buying it at next purchase. But what disappointed me was the reaction of Lexus Roadside Assistance, unless they change the name to Ask-Me-Why-It-Is-Happening-Hotline.

I had a pretty bad experiance with them more then once. They sent me some guy who didnt know how to unlock his trunks box to get the jumper cables out, and instead, insisted on selling me thier AAA battery, and that was all he was trying to do. (All i needed was a jump start so i can go to the dealer and have them replace that battery, this was on a day old 2005 LS430.)
Instead the clown from the AAA kept askign how much I paid for the car, and if i financed it, or paid cash, and how my credit is doing.... wtf?
Ended up asking a friend to take me to Autozone to buy some cheap $5 cables to jump start it.
Sorry you are having Smart Key glitches, but I'm happy to know that I'm not the only one. Mine is very intermittent and I cannot duplicate the problem at will. When Smart Key is not working, nothing happens when I grab the door handle, but the unlock button on the key fob works. The car also beeps a solid tone for about 10 seconds when I close the trunk. This is also intermittent.
I brought my car into the dealer early this week, but there were no error codes stored and they could not duplicate the problems. Here is my earlier thread:
And I was thinking to cancel my AAA cuz of the Lexus roadside assistance. Guess I'll keep them now.
assistance. Our dealership now has its own roadside assistance that sends out a tech with a modicum of parts such as a battery for instance. This saves time and a trip to the dealership. This service is available only during business hours weekly. As you know cars usually have problems on the weekend at midnight....Mercedes has had a similar service for years and I hope this evolves nationally to a better system for Lexus other than relying on the mercy of AAA.
Around Chicago Lexus uses AAA. When my 04 LS430 stopped dead in the middle of a Railroad crossing after pushing it off I waited 3 hours for AAA to show up . Lexus would call every 20 minutes to say AAA was on his way. When I told them after an hour I was only .5 mile from the towing company that services the Interstate they could not use it since they would not accept a Lexus P.O. When I finally was towed to the dealer after 3 hours they said my fuel pump which had been replaced under a recall had failed. Lexus Perfection?
My wife had a flat last week on her '03 LS430. She called Lexus roadside assistance. Even though we bought the car at Sewell in Dallas, they dispatched a person from Park Place in Plano which is closer to where my wife was. They arrived in 20 minutes and changed the tire. Very courteous. P.S. I've had no issues with SmartKey on my '04LS.
I have used the Lexus Emergency Roadside Assistance several times, the most recent this afternoon. Luckily they have been for flat tires and not for the types of problems posted here. I've had nothing but good experiences with them. I find that their service is faster when they use a Lexus dealership than when they use AAA.
Today I waited about 30 minutes and the tire was changed quickly and efficiently. I then took the tire to my dealer and the Express Service repaired the tire and replaced the spare in 15 minutes with no wait. There was no charge for anything. Then one of their representatives called me to confirm that the service was performed and asked me if there were any issues. I'm sure that the service varies area to area, but I don't think I could have asked for better performance.
