Before I make an appointment to get my car checked out, I thought I'd ask you guys if you have ever experienced these electronic gremlins. My '04 LS430 has a little over 11,000 miles and 2 weeks ago, I had my service department change one of the CBEST settings. The change was to unlock all doors when shifting to Park. Maybe it's a fluke, but since then weird electronic problems started to happen. Here is a list:
1. Sometimes Smart Access will allow me to open the doors and trunk normally, by grabbing the handle or pushing the button on the trunk. Other times there is no reaction when grabbing the handle or pushing the trunk button, but the buttons on the remote will open the doors & trunk.
2. Sometimes when closing the trunk (not the doors), the car will give off a solid beep for about 10 seconds. The trunk will lock normally.
3. Sometimes the parking sensors will beep, sometimes they won't. The dashboard display works normally.
Is there only one "controller" for all these functions? Anyone else have similar problems and if so, how were they remedied? I have not been able to determine what causes the gremlins to occur or what returns the functions to normal.
I had my car re-programmed exactly as you did and have had no problems with the smart key access.
The beeping sound is a warning tone from the smart access system. The only time I've heard this beeping sound is when I have tried to lock the car with another key in it. This has happened, for example, when my wife leaves her pocketbook either in the car or in the trunk and her key is in it.
Check the owners manual. There may be other instances where the warning tone is sounded.
My SmartAccess is getting a little flakey too on my 2004 - it takes a few tries sometimes, especially on rear doors. I was going to get them to look at it next service.
Agree with stanatl - check you don't have a second set of keys in the trunk, the LS may be trying to "help you" avoid locking your keys in the car.
Silly question perhaps, but have you guys replaced the battery in the SmartAccess key? It may be getting low.
I haven't replaced the battery in the key fob, nor have I tried using one of the other keys. I did have another key in my luggage which was in the trunk. That could explain some of the times the trunk beeped. There were also times when there was no other key close by that the trunk beeped when closing and the Smart Access didn't open the doors.
I have my car at the dealer today getting checked out. Of course everything was working fine. Unless some error code got stored, I don't have much hope that my car will get fixed.
As I expected, the service department was unable to diagnose the problem since everything was working normally when I brought it in. The only way they were able to duplicate the beep when closing the trunk is when they put a key inside and closed it. Hopefully if/when the glitches recur, I'll be close enough to the dealer to drop in and show the tech.
