Question Key Fob Interference with Phone

Most times when I have my key fob or wallet fob behind my Samsung Note 2 phone in the same pants pocket, it sometimes does not get detected by the RX. I have the same problem with my CT. Not a big deal as I just place my phone in my other pocket and no issues.

Curious if anyone else has the same interference issues, with the same or different phone, and any hunches as to why?

Once in a while it affects me too. It is one of the things the manual says will impair of the function of the key. Other things it says could interfere include contact with coins, cigarette packs with foil liner, DVDs and CDs

I personally keep my phone in the right and fob in my left pocket to avoid any such problems. I originally started doing that to ensure my car key (well before the keyless fob) would not scratch my phone when I started carrying it around years ago, and it has served me well since.

As Andy says, metallic things like coins can interfere with the signal. Its not a unique problem with the fob, as I can cause my iPhone to loose its bluetooth signal to my Lexus or previous BMW if I put too much stuff over it in my pocket -- it's just the low power technology being used that can be interfered with. To test the theory, some have tried wrapping their fob in foil -- effectively making it invisible to the car. Other devices on top of your fob like your smartphone are no different.

Thanks folks. Makes sense. Again, no biggie as I just avoid both fob and phone in the same pocket. Looks like it's with any phone, among other items as stated. Never happened with my Blackberry but then again, it was in a cradle tied to the hip!
