Question Dash Shift Indicator issues

Hi there!

I recently purchased a 1997 LS400/Celsior (JDM model) and have been trying to diagnose a strange issue. When the car is cold or hasn't been driven in a while there will be no indication of gear on the dashboard other than park. Shifting into reverse or drive does not show a light and so far I have determined that this stops the reverse beep from sounding and prevents cruise control from engaging.

After between 5-10 minutes of driving the lights will suddenly appear on the dash and all functions return. This will remain until the car has cooled down again, if I turn off the car and turn it back on straight away the issue is still not present.

Does anyone have any ideas on what this could be, or has anyone else encountered a similar issue?

Cheers.

---

EDIT: I am also experiencing an issue in which I cannot unlock the car using the driver's door lock, but locking still works. I imagine there is just a replacement part I require, but I'm wondering whether or not there are some underlying issues that could be causing the problems I am experiencing and may lead to a fix.

Hi there again.

Sorry for the bump, but I'm really hoping someone has any advice.

Maybe its a capacitor deal in the cluster. The lock might have some wearing and the tumblers don't pull all the way in to rotate.

That's a typical symptom of a failed neutral safety switch. Simply replace it or clean the contacts and apply a new contact grease. Problem is it is attached to the AT and it is not easy to access.

There is a simple and easy way though. A search will let you know the way.
