Headlight leveling on dash board of a 98 ls 400
Ref : 98 LS 400
Gentlemen,
For a few weeks now..my info display on the dashboard lights up and reads HEADLIGHT LEVELING. I am at a lost here because for the longest I have had the car , never seen this warning.
Hopefully you guys can come to my rescue..I refuse to think of taking the car to the Lexus dealer.
Your input will be greatly appreciated.
Tony.

Check your ballast connections for the hid headlights. Since I can't remember exactly which harness it is, check all the connections on the back of the headlight housing. It's the beefiest harness.
Iirc, which I just said I don't, on the drivers side housing, to the far left is the high beam harness. To the far right is the low beam harness. In between these two harnesses is two more harnesses. One points toward the low beam and is some kind of running light for the low beam. Just below it is the beefy ballast harness.

A quick way to check if your leveling system is working is to put your headlights on auto and turn your car on at night and see if your headlights move up and then back down. This is your leveling system doing a check. If your headlights don't move then there is something wrong with the leveling system. Either the connectors worked their way loose or the sensors are damaged or out of alignment. Have you hit any big potholes lately?

Here's a page with a description of how the sensors work.

Thanks to u guys Rugby and Sha..what can one say about Sha..he has been here a while and always been most helpful.
I'm going to ckeck my ballast connections tomorrow on the dr.side and if that doesn't work I'll do the passenger side monday. Not sure if there's a ballast there as well.Let's hope I get a positive result',
I'd be back here ASAP to show my appreciation either way.
