Unhappy CD Changer problems

I sold my CD changer on eBay a month ago, and sadly the buyer is reporting that:

1) When he changes CDs, it goes to a random song on the CD
2) It takes a long time to switch between songs

I asked if he was using CD-Rs, and he said "no".

I'm not going to stiff him, but I want to make sure he's being honest about the CD-R question. Anyone else have this happen to their CD Changer?

I know on my "new" SC400 (93) that CD-Rs do behave that way, but original ones do not.

Anyone have Lexus recondition their CD Changers? Do they then handle CD-Rs better? I know for a fact that, for example, a CD Changer in a 2002 Ford SUV handles a CD-R perfectly (no random skipping), but the same CD-R behaves like the buyer said is happening to the one I sold him.

Thanks all! I'm hoping I can either determine he's actually using CD-R media or that I can get this thing fixed properly and resell it.

Sounds odd, Is he wanting to return it?
I does seem like he may be using CDRs.I know mine acted funny and sometimes didnt read them at all.
Try to get it worked out so that he doesnt give yoo bad feed-back

That's ALL I use is CDR's and i don't have that problem. The changer takes alot time to change discs but not songs so I would have him specify that.

Also, is he using audio CDR's or data CDR's. There is a different encoding that sometimes can cause problems. If he isn't using Sony or maxell audio CDR's then he needs to get some.

Sounds bogus. btw, once something is sold I never turn into tech support to hear about all the issues. He wanted it and he got it. As long as you know that you didn't purposely try and get over than you should move on.

The changers in these cars are horribly unreliable. The changer that came with my car would be able to play about 6 cds out of the 50 I tried. i bought a changer off ebay and now I can play roughly 50% of store bought CDs but 100% of my recorded CDs (burned on data cds). I should have complained to the guy I bought it from but I was so glad to listen to something besides FM.

I never had any problems with my changer, didn't matter what kind of cd ... maybe I was just lucky .. but hopefully if you return that guys money you will be able to make sure he is returning the same cd changer that you sold him.

Every slot in my changer has a CD-R in it, with one problem that only happens once in a while. If I turn the car off, and the head is pretty far out on the disc (say track 9 of 12), sometimes it won't pick up where it left off when I turn the car back on....I have to toggle the disc select button, then I can play track 9 on up just fine. I have all sorts of different brands of CD-Rs in there, none labeled as "music", which is just marketing BS anyways.

you lucky bast@#%S, being able to listen to CD in your lexus! Mine stopped working about 2 years ago. Whitmanpc1, if the buyer returns the CD changer, maybe I could test the changer in my lexus. Just a thought

I have no problem so far. CDR take about 5-10 second to switch between disc, but all my CDR and store bought CD work without any problem.

There are THREE (3) different "revisions" of the SC's CD Changer...the first one SUCKS. The 2nd is better but it skips easily, the 3rd is the best but it's still not "good"...

You can easily tell by the color sticker...tell me color sticker you sold the guy (ask the buyer)...

I have the 2nd revision and with 12 CD-R's (data/audio specific CD-R's don't really matter...I have used both and now burn only on data cuz I can buy 100 for like $20...) in my changer and ALL of them play fine. The only problem I have with my changer is it's easy to skip on bumps (well, easier than my GS430's CD Changer). I have also cycled approximately 100 CD-R's through the changer burned on various media at various speeds and haven't had a single problem with random play or no-play...just skipping...but it skips with non-CD-R CD's too...

Unhappy CD "skipping" to random songs

Thanks for everyone's input on this.

I do fear that he might try to slip me a broken CD player (his old one, for example, which he said was broken). He does, however, have good eBay feedback...so who knows.

Either way, it took him 2 weeks to get back to me about it not working. I am wondering if ethically/morally/legally I need to refund his money. I did say that I would guarantee that it works in my listing, and I don't want negative feedback (which I'm sure I'll get if he's not happy).

On a seperate issue, maybe this thing needs to be cleaned? I wonder if is is just something simple.

Thanks again for everyone's input.

Are all three revisions interchangeable between model years? Could I use the 3rd revision in an early model year SC?

Thanks,
-Brian.
