JL amp help???
Im running JL 500/1 to push JL 12w6, initial install I've put 3/8 of its output and last week I've increased to 5/8. The problem is that whenever I crank up the system it plays OK for a while and the bass just shuts off and Im only hearing mid bass thru my other speakers.
Can anyone help me out???
Thanks in advance.

That amp is perfect for the W6, which is rated for 400w rms. JL conservatively rates their subs, their subs easily can handle more power.
If I was going to a sq system with JL products, I would probably go with the same sub/amp combo.

if your amp is just shutting off its either over heating or the sub is maxing out. So when it shuts off try touching it and see if its excessivly hot if not turn the gain down a tad and try it again.
also is the amp 6 omh stable? maybe you hook it up in parralel to 3 ohms

the 12W6v2 is NOT a 6 Ohm woofer...it's a Dual 4 Ohm.
check the way it's wired up, if the JL amp is shutting off try to get it to happen when you can look at the amp. if your ohm light comes on, pull that baby out and send it back. (Hopefully you have a warranty on it) If that keeps happening, it's a good possibility that the amp might be going out. Check your woofer to see if there is any sign of too much current being sent through it.

That is the V.2 not the original W6 here's the proof
Its 400 not 300 wrms
BTW the W6 v.2 is dual 4 ohms, not 6 ohms.
skpark70:
that sub can only be wired for either 2 or 8 ohms, and i believe that amp is good for 1.33ohms, so regardless of which way its wired up it shouldn't make your amp go into protection, however, check if its wired correctly (those w6 v.2 wiring is a little tricky).
here's a pic to show you what i mean, the wires could be mixed up...
