Presented to the service department today. Swapped out the conventional and replaced with Mobil 1. Service rep at the beginning, still had difficulty understanding that the 5W30 was in regard to a viscosity requirement (not whether the oil needs to be conventional or synthetic), and that the manual only states that the oil must meet or exceed the required specifications that Lexus stipulates. He also thought that the requirement was to utilize 9.1 litres until I showed him the manual that states to use 8.6 litres. In addition,I showed him the pic of the overfilled crank case and asked them to not add as much oil this time, The dealership was very nice about it, but unfortunately, they slightly overfilled it again (eyeroll). If I did not think it would void my warranty, I would start to do my own oil changes at this point. .
It is one thing to make a mistake, we all make them.
OTOH, someone here someone posted that Only The Most Senior Lexus Service techs are Supposed to work on the LCs.
I would Damn Sure want to know Why their Most Senior tech was Incapable of RTFM and correctly performing a simple oil change.
Coming in to Correct the overfill and them Still having No Clue on how much oil to use would have me burning the seat up in the General Managers office.

its the same with my service recently. i went in at 1800km and told them to change it out and they still overfilled it. told them to suck out half a qt afterwards.
The service tech said ohh i was just following the computer, the computer decides how much oil goes in. Im like your computer is wrong because you guys are overfilling all these LC's. Least you guys could have done is do a dipstick check after the computer fills it.
I also asked them did they have a way of extracting the excess oil, and I was told that they will crack open the drain plug and allow some of the oil to flow out, seal it and remeasure the level.
Hmmm...
Isn't there a crush washer on that plug?
Assuming so, is it a multi use one or not?
If not, I think I'd ask that they give me the old one in a baggie.
At least with bikes, I Think that even though many people Don't, they're Supposed to be a tighten 1 time then replace item.

Yes, I as well have always thought that the washer is single use. When they switched out the conventional for synthetic, I believed that they replaced the washer but am not 100% sure. That being said, I have not had any leaking from the oil pan that I know of. I can not detect any scent of burning oil whilst or after driving, when I park in the garage.
im worried that the yahoos in your dealership didn’t even change the oil. You’re absolutely sure it was clear before ? I don’t think it’s possible for the oil to turn that bad in 450 miles.
appreciate the concern, but how do you think i determined it was overfilled? i read the dipstick with clear oil after it was changed, well not right after, probably at least 150mi. after
one 'factor' may be i put ALL of the thin tubing down the dipstick before doing the extraction. maybe that goes into the bowels of the engine somewhere and gets something less pristine?
because the dipstick STILL looks i'd say 95% clear.
We just bought a 2022 Audi S6 at the end of this July. It has engine oil level indicator on MMI, and per manual, it will display oil level high alert if oil level is high (of course, I don’t see this alert on….at least for now).
I am still on LC500 waiting list for a fit allocation. Just wondering, I assume LC500 should come with something similar: digital oil level display with low/high alert. Shouldn’t this be a standard in these level cars?
Seems we will need to pull the metal dip ruler to see oil level?

i recall when BMW did away with the dipstick everyone and their mothers yelled at them. i think youre the only guy i know who wants a digital oil display instead of a dipstick. Its easier to just check the dipstick instead of relying on the computer. LC500 like all the other lexusessesese does have a low oil warning light and a computer message.

Cursed the design enga neer on Every Single motorcycle where I had to look thru a damn sight glass for the level.
Why did they "fix" what wasn't broke?

typical German engineering. always messing with things, always trying to reinvent the wheel. That's why their stuff isn't as reliable because their engineers love to throw everything out and start anew instead of gradual improvements like the Japanese. If you look at the only car where they gradually refine things (911 lineup) then the reliability isnt so bad.

What you said makes sense and I would agree. I still like old school dipstick, I won’t say I prefer computer only. As a matter of fact….. I did not know the S6 comes without a simple hardware like oil dipstick….. only opened the hood once…… I will definitely open the hood tonight to look for the oil spot….but, no oil dipstick!?……. Audi takes part of fun away….
PS: one hint for night version option (infrared/thermal imaging) in Germany cars. Our S6 as a new stock does not have it, but we like the rest options and color combo. I would like to have the night version if I customize it but no chance this year…. Ok, to the point, the manual says, night version thermal camera will be deactivated if night background temperature is 77 F or above.
What the hxxx! I live in Louisiana, most of the year, day temperature is 90-100F, night is 80-90F. This option will be deactivated the majority of the year! I do like the thermal image, looks cool. But deers come out on road more at spring/summer times, and the night version is deactivated when I need it the most…
I assume people in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona are in the same boat. Damn…..
Anyway makes me feel better that LC500 does not have the night version option.
but it would be cool if LC500 has carbon ceramic brake. Ok, I am too much off topic now….sorry.

I would like to test drive a 911 4S or above to compare with S6 which I drove 1660 miles in the past 3 months. Also look forward to having LC500 and daily drive back to back to compare. Will be fun.
But local dealer does not have any 911 in stock….. anyway, I plan to swap one of our cars with a 911 4S or something in the next iteration in 5-6 years. Of course, if stock keep doing -20% every year, that’s another story. Lol.
I think I can shed some light on this 9.1 qt Owners Manual spec VS the service computer screen saying 10 qt.
1st, they are using bulk oil fillers. Not individual quarts of oil. Now, I do not know whether they just push the 2018 LC 500 button OR if they actually have to dial in the number of quarts.
But what I think I CAN prove is that the 10 quart figure is DEFINITELY In THEIR system.
See below. I doubt very seriously anyone had to ask the tech how many quarts they used. I'm sure once they hit Oil Change, LC 500, Their SYSTEM pulled up the 10 quart figure.
You betcha I'll be asking their Service Manager why they feel the need to use .9 quart More Than The Factory says they should use.
