This is one repair I never quite understand. After it's repaired can you tell there was a chip there? If so, how is it not visible?
It always depends on the chip, itself. I have had them be almost invisible and some you can clearly see. The intent of the repair is to keep the windshield on the vehicle and serviceable...so there might be a small spot, but hopefully it's not too much in your line of sight. It's a process of vacuum (removing air) and pressure (forcing a resin into the void made by the chip). Experienced helps a lot in this type of repair but I have seen 1st timers have good results with this kit.
I just got this kit from autozone after 2 local mobile shops not returning my inquiry, safelite being weeks out on scheduling, and one guy quote $300 saying it needs recalibration after fix (my guess is this was a "job too small" quote).
Just finished up. Came out great, can barely tell it's there unless you know it to be there or are really looking for imperfections. I could not even get the camera to focus on the defect without hovering my phone over it in the garage, below picture was in full sunlight. Took about 45 minutes start to finish.

That's a fantastic result. About as good as most of my repairs, and I was a Pro! 😝👍🏾
Saved you a windshield install and if you ever get another chip...we'll, you're a Pro now, too. 🤘🏾
This seems a bigger than a small chip. How did you get it?
I heard something a few days ago that sounded like a rock but then I didn't see anything on the paint, so assumed it was just a music glitch or small enough Pebble that it didn't do damage, never thought to check the windshield until I saw it while washing. It must have blended in with all the love bug guts my car was caked in!

Thanks for the reassurance with the product used. I saw a bunch of different kits by jb weld, rain x, etc but some online videos suggested permatex as the best of bunch. Glad it worked out! I showed my mom and she asked me to fix the ones on my dad's car 🤣
On the Chip: I got one that spread quickly into a crack across and the windshield needed to be replaced. EXPENSIVE! >$2000.
Most of the cost was neither the windshield itself or the install - it was the calibration of the sensor stack by the Lexus dealership. My insurance helped, but still.
So if you can defer a replacement with a decent chip repair then do it....

Thanks for sharing, makes me feel even better for scheduling the fix.
My insurance goes/has been going up regardless (no claims, no tickets). Then add in the registration fees which are secret sauce formulas based on the MSRP the year it was manufactured.
Don't care about the price of Eggs, I can choose to do without them.

That Permatex kit is one of the best, available. Very easy to work with. 👍🏾
