Just recieved stoptech front and rear pads. It looks like they have shims on the backing plate. For anyone who has replaced their pads with stoptech do I still use the factory shims? Thanks

If the OEM shims don't fit properly or lock into place properly, then you don't reuse them..


Post a photo of the new pads if you can...

I do not remember seeing shims on my Stoptech pads. But I just handed them over to my mechanic for install...don't know for certain.

 

The OEM shims should fit, the backing plates are all made to a physical standard and should be identical from a measurement perspective. The shims and grease are noise abatement only. It's up to you if you want to do this.

Use the ones that are on the Stoptech pads. Make sure you keep your stock shims incase you go back to the OEM pads

Do these Stoptech pads reduce brake dust over stock?

 

I did not notice any significant reduction. But they are quiet and work well.

 

I used shims on my ISF but never my STi.
