for a little while ive had this weird issue with my steering.
if im driving in a straight line for long enough then try to turn the steering wheel gets "stuck" almost like a hesitation but when i put a little more force it starts to turn.
this only happens on the highway and im starting to thing i might have a problem.
what do you guys think?
2016 200t
i had an alginment recently also but its been happening for awhile ive just gotten used to it.
thanks in advance.
yeah sound like the same issue, I'm gonna say something next time I'm in for service.
what do you think the issue is?
ill ride more into the thread too.
I'd guess it has to do with the way the system is interpreting input and its discernment from driver input and road input (tramlining). There's probably a ton of software engineering and engineering in general that goes into those systems and the car is just getting confused based on a highly particular set of conditions and/or values. That would be my guess.
Should just keep your hands on the steering wheel until you can see if there's any software updates.
yeah if you are sitting still while the car is running, try taking one finger and lightly turning the steering wheel. i mean really light. less than 1/8th an inch to 1/2 an inch. and do it slowly. you can sort of feel the car getting confused and sort of lightly assisting the steering. kind of gives you insight as to how the system is working and thinking. it's fun to try. you'll feel a slight tug, then the car sort of stops trying, then tries again.
I'm wondering if everyone that's experiencing this just recently had an alignment done.
The OP did mention an alignment was done recently.
In reality you're supposed to calibrate the steering after an alignment is done...rarely does anyone do it...one, because it's difficult to do without a Techstream...and two, no one knows it needs to be done.
There's 2 calibrations that needs to be done...Zero point calibration of the Yaw Rate sensor and Zero point calibration of the Acceleration sensor.
The procedure starts with the old calibration information being cleared, and then you set the Zero point for both.
In a very very basic sense you're telling the Steering ECU what the new "straight ahead" parameters are.
It may or may not make a difference here...it may or may not be the cause of the steering issue being described.
I thought I was crazy and/or car was tramlining, but very rarely, this happens to me too.
When I am slowing to a stop over uneven pavement I get some pulling from the wheel. I always assumed it was just due to the pavement... Since it's only when I am braking. Never had any issues at speed.
