Default Refund check from Lexus

So out of the blue my lexus dealership sent me a check and it says: refund for the purchase of 2014 IS250. Kind of weird, but who would say no for some free money right? But really, after 4 months, now I'm wondering why.

Anyone ever got this too?

Do you mind telling how much is the refund? Strange, no letter explaining the refund?

Usually you get a refund check if you told them a higher amount on your trade in then what it really was when they submitted payment. Example if you really owe your finance company of your trade in 2,000 dollars and you told the dealership at the time of deal that you owe them 2,700 then you will get back the difference of 700 bucks. This is so the dealership wont have to call you back to redo paper work. Or if you didnt have a trade in then you got us.

Usually a payoff difference of your trade.

I doubt it's the difference between trade in amount vs. payoff. Lexus sends the entire amount they offer you for your trade to your lien holder. If there's an overage, the lien holder will send you the refund check directly.

I've gotten a check back from a dealer once in the past. They 'somehow' miscalculated the tax/DMV fees. But as rgvfsport said, monies back from payoffs come from the lender, not Lexus corp.

I received a refund check too but it was because I overpaid for the transfer of the tag.

the check isn't much. Only a couple hundreds. But still, free money. Yay!

And I didn't have any trade in when I bought my car. So it won't be the payoff difference.

My best guess will be part of the tax and title cost? Or lexus is trying to make me a Lexus customer for life? Ha
