Default Vehicle trades between dealers

Is this a common practice? If so, should I expect to pay extra for a vehicle my dealership does not have, but can get from another dealership? If so, how much?

I am really close to pulling the trigger,

Thanks Guys,

Lonwa

this is indeed VERY common practice. but you should not expect to pay anything extra. i had a few dealers saying they will trade, etc. but they all honored the same price they quoted me.

the downside of the trade is the additional mileage they tack on by driving the vehicle from one dealership to another - if it's a fairly local trade. however, if it's a trade with a dealer much farther away, they may put it together on a truck.

what did you end up deciding on?

yes it's very common, and it's up to you and dealership to work out the deal, whether they will pick up the trade delivery or you pay some

Definitely common practice. Even some trades are made cross country.

I won't pay extra for a traded car.

The only issue you may run into is if the car is REALLY far away. They ship a car, instead of driving it, in those cases and then it's up to you to negotiate the shipping fee. A dealer will rarely eat the cost of shipping for a traded car. Usually you end up splitting the shipping with the dealer, cuz otherwise, they just won't trade for that car. If they eat the shipping, it's cuz you're paying for it somewhere else (price of the car, trade in, etc).

Mine was a traded car and I didn't pay anything extra for them trading. The only thing I had to accept was the extra mileage, as omniskye mentioned. It came from a dealer a little further than I would have liked. Would rather have just bought it from that dealer, but they never responded to my information requests. Bastids.
