LPS changed today ..... car much more enjoyable !
As I was getting close to one year of ownership I figured I better get my FREE LPS done before the time ran out. So I took the car in to Lexus of Austin to have the settings adjusted. After just a few hours with the new settings the car is much more enjoyable.
Changes made:
1. Pressing the unlock button one time will unlock all doors
It only saves a second press of the button, but it makes so much more sense to unlock all doors with one press.
2. All of the doors will remain unlocked when shifting from park into another range
I dislike cars that are always locking the doors for me, and then guessing when they should unlock. I'll often back out of the garage and then my wife comes out, finding the passenger door locked. Fumble with the switch. Or when I am dropping someone off, further fumbling. Now I can control when to lock the doors. Some will say its a safety issue and in big cities maybe it is, but in the country I don't need to drive into town with all four doors locked. Big improvement in functionality.
3. The moon roof will not open when the UNLOCK button on the remote is pushed for 2.5 seconds
A function I will never use or miss.
4. Press button one time to release the trunk (no delay)
I'm inpatient. I want one press to open the trunk lock.
5. Turn off headlights immediately when vehicle is turned off and the driver door is opened
I don't trust the automatic turnoff feature, and in the garage I don't need the headlights to remain on.
6. Change sensitivity of AUTO light feature to "4" (darker)
It's annoying to have your lights come on in a short tunnel, or under a shaded portico, or when driving into my garage. It just shortens their life. When I drove in this afternoon it took a full 15 seconds for them to switch on. Now I can shut the engine off before they cycle.
7. User must set mode of climate control
In TX I like a constant recirculation mode as it keeps the car cooler and drier. No constant switching from 'outside air' or 'recirc' mode
8. Turn off the DRL's
Although not a biggie with me, I generally dislike settings like this. When I brought the car in today I asked the Service Writer to turn off the DRL's. He wasn't sure it could be done so I handed him the relevant sheet from the Service Manual with the function code. He said he would talk to the technician as I think it was the first time anyone had requested it from him. When the car was done forty five minutes later he said they managed to turn off the DRL's. Sweet! No hassles. (Please no safety lectures)
Now I have less nannies locking/unlocking doors, turning things on and off, and making me push more buttons.
The DRL issue seems to be hit and miss with dealers. Whether or not there is some sort of Lexus directive on this I don't know, but it wasn't any problem in this case. Just come with the relevant page from the Service Manual. Once they are doing the other settings it is only a few extra seconds to do the DRL's. Just ask nicely.
I don't know how many people actually change the settings, but the ones I made sidestep some of the annoyances I had with the operability of the car.

Evitzee - Those are some good ones. You changed a few that I would like changed now but didnt know about when I went in.
So how much do they charge again to have LPS settings changed after your free one?

Hey thanks for this list, although I like some of them to remain as they are. I would like to change #2 (I don't like that all doors unlock when you shift into park) and #8 done but I highly doubt my dealership will do this. I wish we could do some of these ourself.
I don't understand #4, when I press the outside button to unlock the trunk it open right away with 1 press.
If you want say just a few to be changed, how long do you think it would take?
