2006 gs300
Hey guys, I was referred here by a friend. Anyways, my dad has a GS300 and for Xmas I was planning on giving him an update to his navigation system. I read somewhere on here earlier that it's 330 bucks total for the update. As stated above, It's an 06. My question to y'all is if the dealer needs to do the update? Also, I'm in Arizona if there are any locals. Also, do any of you use synthetic oil in your gs's? The mileage on the car is 29492. Thanks for the input guys and sorry for all the questions!

if your dad's car has navi, then all you need to do is buy the latest navi disc for the 4th gen system. it must be 4th gen since the car is an 06. the disc run $199 and you can buy them from Sewell lexus which gives a discount to ClubLexus members. to install it, all you do is open the glovebox and on the top right side you'll see a dvd drive, just eject the old navi disc and slide the new one in. no need for the dealer.
It is a super easy thing to swap yourself. I am still using the 08 disc and may bite the bullet and spend the $170 or whatever it is but I rarely use it. I so wish the disc would be able to update the software to a newer version but it just does the maps....oh well.....

Is this the part # you ordered? PT219-GEN04-11, if not, then you may have the wrong version. Check this link. http://lexusnavigation.com/what_to_order.php
It is the right part. My pops hasn't put in the new disc, but when we put in the original disc that came with the car it won't read. It just says insert correct dvd disc. Is there a reason why? I don't want him to pay big bucks at the dealership over this. Any suggestions?
