Default Automatic Trunk?

I have an 06' GS430 and was wondering what the strap that hooks up to the trunk is for? Can the trunk be closed automatically like mercedes? I know that when you lower your trunk down, the strap pulls it shut to the lock position. My question is that can you automatically close the trunk from the fully open position?

on my 2007 gs, it cannot close from fully opened position.
also, i wish my trunk lid doesnt feel like it weights 100lbs. on my Accord, the trunk lid feels a lot lighter!!

that ribbon is not for pulling the trunk closed, there is a motor in the latch for that, the ribbon is simply the conduit of wires for brakes, license, backup camera...

On my GS 450h, if you close the trunk (but not slam it shut), it will automatically close it shut (so I assume this would be similar to what MB has).

As for having the trunk close from the fully open position, yes you can have this done. You need a heavy duty actuator and some trick custom modification to have this done. Your hi-end custom car audio shop should be able to do this for you. Whether or not you have the room in your trunk to do this is a different question, considering you already have a custom audio system in your trunk already. Anything is possible if you throw enough money at it.

On the MB, you can close the trunk with you pinky finger. There's a rectangular button at the bottom of the trunk and you just press that while it's in fully open position, and it'll close by itself.

When I tried out my new supposedly "automatic" trunk closer the first time, I think it's a joke. I guess there's a flaw in every car.

Do you really want to know about the auto close trunk or you just want to show off your system

the autolatch trunk in the GS is one of the most useless features.

you lose 2 second everytime you close your trunk because you have to close it gently.

^^ not for everyone I guess, i beat the living crap out of people that slam my trunk, so this is perfect.

automatic trunk closer like the LS, while it's nice, it just adds unnecessary weight and potential breakage to the mechanism.

quit being lazy people, just close the trunk yourself

It would be better if it was slow close for the side doors.

that's what i hate about automatic stuff...
they're too slow. automatic seats- 10x slower than manual.

if i wanted automatic doors, they'd better close fast at the push of a button.

why do you HAVE to close it gently? you can still slam it if you want

on the other hand, i don't see how i LOSE 2 seconds when i close my trunk gently. it latches it self, i either walk away from the car or i walk towards the driver seat. lose what?
