Default trunk not closing right?

ok, every time i pop my trunk, i gotta slam it back down with all my weight for it to close properly. if i don't the trunk just pops right back open. sometimes it will "kinda" close, but it will open back up if i hit a big bump or pull up on the trunk hard enough. this car has never been in an accident, so there is misalignment in the back. anyone have any suggestions?

Is there stuff in the trunk that could be in the way of the trunk arms?

Not sure about the GS, but some cars have those adjusting rubber pads that you can twist down or up. If its too high, it may cause the trunk from closing properly.

First check for the travel and evenness of the trunk lid. Nothing should be binding the movement, other than the fine balance of the weight and counter force of the springs. Make sure the rubber gasket is also in its groove.

Trunk lock usually has an adjustment (via shims) to move the u-hook. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES GET IN THE TRUNK TO SEE WHAT IS GOING ON ALONE .. you need some one to either open the trunk form oustside or call 911 (jaws of life) to cut open the trunk in case some one is trapped.

One person in the body shop will need to get in the trunk with flash-light to observe what is going on. It can be the trunk relase mechanism is binding and the catch never gets to its inteneded location or the hook needs adjustment.

dont do it alone. Even if you have a cell phone on you.

Isn't there an emergency release handle on the inside of the trunk. I thought I remember seeing one.

Well, if somehow for some extremely unlikely reason....the release handle or the cable mechanism breaks on you....then you would be pretty screwed. Extremely unlikely, yes but there is that very rare chance it can happen. Then after you call 911 with your cell phone you can explain to the fire marshall why you were so stupid to trap yourself in the trunk in the first place....lol

Thats only available in the 2001+ GS models.

98-00 does NOT have the emergency release handle inside the trunk.

The metal bar that the trunk latch catches is adjustable. I had mine adjusted on my 98 about a year ago. You just need to take off the plastic garnishes surrounding it and you should be able to loosen it and adjust it.
