I've had my GS 300 for less than a week and here are some of the bluetooth limitations that I have discovered.
First of all, I have a Treo 650. I've inputted all my phone numbers into the phone in the following format: (702) 555-1515.
The GS system does a great job of transferring data to the car's phonebook, however I have discovered that it's not as flawless as one would hope.
Limitation 1: The system will allow one to transfer the info but the (xxxx) xxx-xxxx format will not translate the numbers because of the parathesis. Use 702-555-1212. So, when you look at the transfer in the phonebook, it will say the contact's name but no phone number. Of course the system will not allow you to edit the numbers. Obviously, you can't make a call w/o numbers.
Limitation 2: If you've assigned more than one phone number to a contact, the transfer will only transfer the HOME number, not the mobile or office numbers.
Limitation 3: You can only add numbers to the phonebook or one-touch by transferring data from your cell phone, or from the incoming or outgoing calls. You can't just open up the phonebook and enter a number to save to the phonebook. That would be nice!!!!
If you read something that isn't right, please do let me know!!! I guess I should just be happy that I can talk over the speakerphone w/o holding the phone to my ear.
I was excited about having bluetooth capabilities until I got my gs430 and tried to get my verizon moto phone to work with it. I can't transfer the phonebook at all, lexus won't let us add phonenumbers. What a completely useless feature I've disabled it and use the bluetooth earbud instead.
We bought a Sony phone from Cingular, entered all our numbers plus any of those we thought we might ever need (restaurants, roadside assistance, etc.) into that phone's phonebook, transferred that phonebook to our GS and returned the phone within 3 days for 100% refund. Don't blame Lexus for most of the transfer problems. Verizon crippled the phones's trnsfer function.
I used my girl's sister's Motorola RAZR (T-Mobile) to transfer the phonebook over my car tonight. However, that phone doesn't have an option to transfer the entire phonebook at once so I had to do each one manually. At least they're all on my car now.
As I posted in another thread, it's more of a Lexus issue than a Palm/Verizon/Treo Issue. On my other vehicle, the Treo transfers the "favorites" (50 of them) without any issue. I add or remove one and it automatically adjusts the next time I start the car. Response is quick and it simply works as it should. As far as not transferring the whole phone book, I have over 500 entries, many with 3-4 numbers each. I really don't want or need all of them transferred to the car. I think the nature of the PDA is that you never could or would want to transfer them all. also, it does not matter how the number is formatted, I have quite a few with a *82 prefix and I have no trouble.
IMHO, the Treo 650 works very well with most Bluetooth equipped vehicles. Lexus is the one with the limitation this time.
From Verizon's site regarding the Treo..
"*The PalmOne Treo 650 supports Bluetooth Profiles for wireless headsets, hands-free accessories, file transfer and synchronization with compatible PC's. It does not support all object exchange (OBEX) profiles. "
The OBEX is the bluetooth feature usually crippled by Verizon.
Even with OBEX enabled on my E815, there still isn't a "send" function in my contacts menu. It lacks OPP, which is the object push profile and is necessary in order to transfer the phonebook over.

That's the phone i have as well. I works pretty nice. I dont like the fact that i can't choose a number from the phonebook to dial when i'm driving. The phonebook activates when the car is stopped....mmm....i have to find a way to override this feature...i wonder if the override function posted for entering destination addresses also works for this.

No, the override for entering a destination while driving doesn't apply to this. The only way to override the phonebook dialing is by cutting wires behind the nav unit. I wish everything was as simple as pushing a button.
