I know this may be a dumb question, but how does the AVS work? I know what it does , I just don't quite understand how it works. I know it isn't a fully adjustable air suspension like the E-Class or like Cadillac's Magnaride which uses some type of fluid with magnetic particles in the shocks. So how exactly does this AVS feature on the GS430 function?
Yes, that's correct, AVS is pretty much like the Tein EDFC (Electronic Dampening Force Controller) but for your OEM Suspension. The AVS controls the dampening rate of the shocks from sport (stiff) to comfort (smooth) modes to adjust to your driving style/road conditions accordingly.
Since we're on the subject of avs; do any of you actually feel a difference between the settings? My wife has a gx470, and I feel nada difference whether it's on sport or comfort.
My blk/blk GS430 should be arriving w/in the next week and my guess is I won't be able to feel the differnce there either.

Just curious.
Same here. Cant feel a difference. Maybe someone could enlighten us how to test both settings ?
Ohh it's an amazing difference, but not on flat roads. You're just not going to feel it.
To me, putting the GX in Sport mode it turns into a tank. It feels like my 96 Land Cruiser did. Man it had stiff suspension. When I switch back to Soft, it's like back on a cloud.
Try staying in Sport mode for a long period of time, then switch back. But make sure you're not driving on arizona roads otherwise the difference, I agree, won't be felt.
The GS, when in sport mode, rides like a Corvette. It feels like a board. An amazing difference as well although it doesn't help with handling as much as it should.
I think it works. I can tell the difference between the two settings. In sport mode the ride can get a little busy over rough pavement and you definitely feel freeway expansion joints or large cracks in the pavement more. On a smooth, winding road it also feels like there is less body lean.

I can TOTALLY feel the difference. In sport mode it feels like your teeth rattle and your kidney are jiggling, and what flat cornering! Handles like my 911 did, but easier to drive as a front engine pusher. I use it on the fly all the time if I have a quick corner coming up.
