Default wont move from park

im going to be completely honest with you guys and im gunna explain what prolly did this. and you guys will prolly think wow and have alot of things to say about me, and i deserve all of it. after getting all my aftermarket audio stolen (face plate, subs, amp, speakers, friends phone) basically everything in the car except tv's witch i wonder why they didn't take. my insurance only gave me $100 for everything! not having a job or being able to find one aggrivated me even more. and not being able to listen to music in my car for 3 months cause the insurance took FOREVER to get back to me put me over the top. so the mooching started, gathered $100 from friends to combine with the other 100 cause i wanted a cd player with dvd as i havent seen the tv's in my headrests on since i checked out the car back in september! so i got a stereo! pissed off i didnt care about anything going on and ripped out my old brain in the car, broke the brain out of the the dash kit and slid in my new touch screen sterio not knowing anything about electricals in my car i started wiring. got it to turn on. but only back speakers were working. and half the screen worked. then i took a quick trip to the store to get some electrical tape. and soon as i hit a bump, speakers started crackling. so i turned the screen off. turned it back on when i pulled in my appartment and there was no sound whatsoever so then i decieded to let the proffesionals deal with it. i took my stereo out and took it inside. came back out cause i wanted some fast food and i didnt like how the wires were everywhere so i pushed them back in my dash and then SPARK SPARK, clock and ac display goes out "opps lets not touch that" so then i try to put it in reverse. and its stuck. so i turned off the car and tried it again. still stuck.

somebody please help, i know i should have been more patient. please tell me im not looking at to much. i have 0$ cause of that stereo. my mom wont help me all she will say is sucks for you. its rare that she even gives me gas money. its stressfull enough that the appartments i live in have no garages. Now i feel like 10 extra bricks were dropped on my back. i feel like im just gunna crack and go crazy. no one can even tell me how much a soleniod for my trans is. and iv been driving with it so long i forget my car needs repairs and blow my money on stupid s*** like audio. i try to enjoy my teenage life while i have one but then i forget about the important stuff cause i feel like my moms forcing me to be independent. but she doesnt see doing everything yourself leads to stuff like this. and since we lost our house and my parents got a divorce i do online school. so my eyes hurt from staring at the computer doing school and it just gets worse spending the rest of the day on this site trying to learn things about my car and see how you guys do the DIY's. I dont know what to do or where to start guys i just wanna drive my car

dunno what to tell you about the reason why it is locked, but if you need to get it towed then the little microsd-sized insert near your shifter can be removed so that you can manually press the lever for manual override of your transmission. This is usually either for towing or if you know what the problem is.

I wish I had more info about the actual issue at hand, but that's the best I got for you and hope it helps. As it stands now, I did something stupid myself and installed a new battery backwards and fried my whole interior...waiting on the dealer to replace all fuses necessary...so you're not the only one with a crazy electrical mishap!

That's right. The only thing that would physically stop you from shifting is the brake interlock. Has nothing to do with electronics. Also, you need to take a lesson from all this and prioritize. Especially in a situation where you have little funds. I would recommend keeping your car running before doing anything else at all. Good luck!

i dont really know if this has to do with anything but the amp 120a fuse looks like it melted along with the cartridge.. anyways i heard sometimes this happens when a fuse blows as a saftey feature , thats what im trying to look at right now befor i start looking at the whole brake interlock soleniod sensor thing. my check engine light also went on. does anyone reccomend taking it to auto zone for that free check engine light. do you think they could find a code that has something to do with it????

Yeah, AutoZone can probably pull a code. Before going there, clean everything up, though. Pull out all your wiring, put things back to stock and make sure connections are secure and covered. Moving wires should never cause a spark -- always check the connections before walking away.
The #1 goal here is to keep the car reliable so you can get back and forth to work to make money to get a nice system, professionally installed if necessary. Don't worry about a sound system if you have $100. Feel lucky to be driving a Lexus and not riding a Huffy. Anyway, when everything's put back, check all your fuses, disconnect your negative battery cable, replace the bad fuses, and reconnect the cable. If the car is still acting up, take it to AutoZone if possible.

If I remember right, the brake pedal pulls on a cable that moves a tab to allow you to shift--electrical issues or not, you should be able to shift with the car running and the brake pedal down. That being said, if electrical doesn't ever come into play, you should be able to shift with the car off, which you can't, so I guess I don't know what the hell I'm talking about...

That's right. It's just a cable. You can hear it click, move in and out if you listen real hard when you hit the brake. There's a little tab with a slit near the shifter. It's the size of the end of your key so you can pop it out. You can then push (if I remember correctly) down and shift the shifter. Good info there put the fuses back, get everything stock, go to Autozone for the code if necessary.

gsean just remember that you still have an awesome car, and that it can be fixed. dont get stuck in a hopeless mindset. also, be sure to read and research before you start projects. i have done stuff like this so much and have many broken tabs, missing interior pieces because i got impatient and frustrated. just dont get stuck in that mindset of helplessness bro because it will continue to fulfill itself if you believe it. im confident that you will figure this out. as per the original problem, I have no clue -- press the brake? jk haha

austin7891 has some of the best advice I have heard yet. he's right though....if you remain frsutrated and stuck in the helpless mindset...you're not going to have the imagination or motivation to evaluate the problem as clearly.

On a positive note for you, since we had the exact same problem (different causes), I asked the Lexus tech today when he called me to let me know the car is fixed and ready to go. I gave him your scenario and he said it is probably the same problem I had,l which is replacing the fusable link underneath the junction box. It cost 185 from the dealer, (80 for the part, 100 for labor) and took a day and a half (most of the time was waiting on the part to arrive).

So hopefully that brightens your day a bit. Apparently they see problems like this fairly often at Lexus of Chester Springs (ironically, they are mostly 2nd gen GS's with upgraded aftermarket stereo) and the problem is almost always the fusable link.

wow.. thank you. dont really know what to say but thats very thoughtfull of you to mention my problem to a lex tech. especially that im just some guy on a forum. definatly did brighten my day. and i also thank the rest of everyone on here for the very helpfull replies. u guys really made me think about things. the Gs is an awsome car and i compared my car to the two cars next to me and smiled. So im trying to stay positve. being a member of clublexus was a one of the best decisions iv ever made. anyways I took it to auto zone and an open circuit came up. i showed him the 120a fuse and he thinks that was the problem. tried taking it out and it just broke half. witch really made the electical not work. windows, gauges, dash lights ect. so im gunna try to get those broken pieces out and replace with new 120a fuse and see what happens. if it still acts up im gunna look into the fuseable link. like you said.

np gsean400. I know what it's like to have a problem on a forum and feeling desperate for some input. So I thought while I talked to the guy I may as well mention your issues since it sounded identical.

From what I gather from what the Lexus tech said, that 120a is one of the components of the fusable link. The fusable link has 8 (I think he said 8) major fuses that affect just about all of the electrical components. For my car, he said they just ordered another junction box with all new fuses within the fusable link, and replaced that and everything was fine. He also mentioned the 120a ALT fuse being one of the heavy hitters as far as your internal electronics are concerned...which I believe since I lost everything except my interior lights...lol
