Cool Inquiry

Hello Guys : I was wondering if anybody has heard of a DVD audio system for cars, or a DVD head unit with the decoder for Dvd audio. Thanks : Josey . 2000 GS-400

Hi Dunn : I was referring to a fairly new format in audio that have twice the resolution of cds ; It is currently available in hi-end Dvd players for the home, it plays cds with 6 channels of analog audio, totally diferent from dolby digital, dts, etc. I heard rumors that pioneer and Panasonic are about to put units on the market for cars and I thought that maybe some of you guys have info on that. My plans are to put a Vlad- video conversion (or something like it) that uses the factory screen and a Dvd with dolby digital + this option since I`ll need a Dvd anyway. Thanks Josey

Panasonic has one out / about to come out, the CQ-DVR909U.

Josey - one suggestion for you. Can you please make your thread titles a little more descriptive than 'question' and 'inquiry' when you post? I've updated this one for you. Thanks.

No problem, Dave. I`ll be more descriptive from now on; And many thanks for the info on the panasonic dvd-audio. Am going to research very deep into the whole thing to find a way to combine the OEM screen with vlad-nav. box(or something alike) and dvd-audio player + whatever kind of amp or amps I will need. I already replaced the stock sub with a Infinity 10" 100.3DVC in a box hanging from the rear quarter and a Zapco 100X mono studio amp. It came out beautiful ,looks like factory made and the bass is fantastic, but I anticipate this is going to be tricky and costly. You see, am not interested in making noise at high volumes, but quality sound and video. If there is some help or advise from you I`ll welcome it. Thanks again. Josey

I have the Panasonic CQ-DVR909U in my Honda Odyssey as the head unit. I've purchased another for my Lexus, but that hasn't been installed just yet. The 909U is a good DVD player, excellent surround processor supporting Dolby Digital, DTS and 96Khz DVD-Audio format, more on that in minute. There are a couple problems with the 909U such as when changing sound parameters (changing DownMix ON/OFF for converting 5.1 to 2 channel or turnng front/rear zones on/off) the DVD movie will start over. Other than that and a UI that takes a a little time to learn, it's great! It even looks like a Vegas slot machine with all display lights on, but can be turned off for basic lights.

As for using the 909U for DVD-Audio format it works very well. It displays the playback sample rate on the upper right corner of the faceplate and produces all channels without error. The motorized center channel that flips out sounds very much like it looks. It can be turned OFF in one of the menus and I'd highly recommend using a center channel speaker that 'matches' your front L and R speaker. This will require an external amp. for the center speaker too. The sound of DVD-A is awsome and a perfect fit for a quiet Lexus.
