i used the razor method and its time consuming because you do not want to leave alot of glue left on the window....just razor a corner and slowly peel...with excess glue just buy the tint-off liquid at any auto store to remove it....works like a charm.....

i went to the advance auto and the guy told me to use steel wool pad and that would be quicker and cheaper than the 7.00 bottle of tint remover. it worked very well.

wouldn't that steel wool pad scratch up the window? i heard using the razor method isn't all that great either because you can damage the rear defroster.

I used a razor and the remover on the windows, left the rear up to the tint guy because i didnt not want to take that risk of not having a defroster, I suggest you do the same, it will be worth it in the end.

You could also try using a blow dryer.

I have a good friend who does window tint. Long story short....

1) Take window cleaner with ammonia or just use ammonia mixed with water.

2) Generously spray the tinted area (inside the car not outside) you are seeking to remove.

3) Place a black plastic trash bag over the tinted area (once again inside the car and not out).

4) Leave in direct sunlight for 30 mins or heat area with hairdryer. This step and the ammonia solution helps liquify the adhesive behind the tint.

5) Peel off the tint. Most cases I have witness does not even require a razor blade. If any stubborn adhesive does remain then spray liberally with the ammonia and with gentle pressure scrape with razor blade.

After the first time I watched him remove and apply new tint on my car I felt it would be simple for me to perform the same task. It's just time consuming and I'm lazy.

steel wool doesn't scratch the window i did it last night with little effort. but I did need a razor to remove most of the film first.

jerry supras method is the best, and it works.
i recommend that method because it really isnt that much harder than razor blading the whole thing.

Regarding the razor method - I don't know if it would do the same thing to a car window, but I removed a sheet of frosted tint from the window in my office with a razor and realized later that I had put a billion little scratches in my window. By the way, don't use a Scotbright pad either as I scratched the windshield of my RX with one of those on time while removing some residue from it.

You can use a razor on a car window without a problem. I would assume if you're going to use some kind of pad it would have to be a very fine steel wool.
