Default How do I remove window tinting?

Can anyone give me any ideas on how to remove window tint from the inside of the rear window w/o messing up the window defogger strips or is this even feasible to do. The tint is stuck on pretty good but is kinda rough and obstructs my view, especially at night. Help me if you have any ideas.

If you don't want to do it yourself, using Goo Gone as S142jz mentioned, go back to whoever tinted your windows and see how much it costs. I remember the tint business that did mine said that if a cop gives you a fix it ticket, he could remove it for ~$10 (and give me a discount on getting retinted).

Incorrect. You can turn many tints purple by using ammonia based cleaners. This is something that is very common when people think they are cleaning their windows well using a product like Windex with ammonia in it for better clarity. It eats part of the pigment and affects the color. I suggest A) being nicer 2) learning before speaking C) not making a comment that is not related, especially when wrong.

To the OP - the suggestions are good. For the guy with the purple tint, you can use a spray (pump action, not aerosol) window cleaner that is ammonia based to remove the tint since it is already damaged. I highly recommend masking off any areas that you do not want to spray chemicals on. Leather seats and interior panels are not designed to have that all over them. Ounce of prevention.

A buddy of mine went through this a few years ago. Your going to need a heat gun or blow dryer. Heat the tint and slowly start to peel off. You can you Goo Off/Gone a scotch brite pad with soap water to remove any residue left. GL

Be very care full with the rear heated glass. Mess that up and that's expensive. I would take it to pro if you don't have a steady hand or have the patience.

Bumping this up - Do tint shops offer removal services?

I bought the car used, the rear had tints - want to change it to a much lighter tint.

Most tint shops will offer to remove the tint.

This is a fairly straight forward process, and you can DIY most of the time, however it might be best to let the pros handle the rear window where the defroster lines are run.

For future reference. Use invisible glass instead.
