I’ve never had this feature break In 9 years of owning a 2007 and now a 2010 Lexus with over 100k miles. Still works flawlessly, and it’s way better than the horrible manually tilting steering columns with the bulky latch awkwardly located all the way at the bottom of the column.

agreed! I hate that. They have it backwards too. They scoot the seat BACK away from the door opening making the seat harder to get out of. If it’s gonna make it easier for me to get out, It should scoot the seat forward in front of the B pillar. Rant over

 

until it breaks. Then it’s way worse

 

How? Just fix it and move on.

 

They are great until you have to repair them. sinking money into a 15 or 20 year old cars powered steering wheel is not a good way to spend $$$

 

And manual windows are better than power windows when they break.

 

One can still drive the car with a powered window that is no longer operating….but a power wheel stuck in a specific position can make the car inoperable

 

Inoperable? Really? How often do you change the position of your manually adjustable steering wheel? I find the position I like, and virtually never change it. If the power adjustment broke in that spot, it wouldn't even make a difference.

But if the power windows broke and I couldn't roll them down, that would be a bigger problem--especially at the drive thru...

not if you have entry or exit assist turned on.

I would be more worried about a power seat failing than I would the windows.

If I had the choice…I much prefer manual, and I would choose manual if I could

 

All of this talk makes me think I should start wearing a belt AND suspenders just in case one of them breaks.

 

You lease your cars and don’t keep em’ long…try owning something out of warranty and maybe you’d see someone’s concerns.

 

I've considered turning off the auto-folding mirrors on my BMW because i'm worried about wear on the motors.

 

I've never leased a car. Always purchase.

 

Everything is good until it breaks, manual or not. In all my years of owning cars, the only window controls of mine that have broke are manual ones. On my Corolla, with manual crank windows, the crank stripped out. Such is life. Respect other opinions, but for me, the convenience of the power features outweighs the cost to repair them if they break. Just because something is manually operated, it doesn’t mean it can’t break too.
