I don't understand the Genesis popularity.
Guess I still think of them as a high end Hyundai back in the day.
Have they been around long enough to "earn" luxury status and loyality, I don't know cuz I still think of them as a "knock off luxury car" even tho that may not be true.
i'm not really a 'brand' guy, and not brand loyal, so no idea if i'd get another lexus after the LC. my other car is a hyundai, and no idea if i'd replace that with another either. i like variety and trying different things.

increase in brand loyalty does not mean 'popularity'.

maybe you should go look at one some time. and if genesis is high end hyundai or knock off luxury car then that might apply to other brands too.
Given the time frame I wonder if this data factors the general availability of cars. In other words, if someone wants to replace their Volvo with another Volvo, but there ain't any Volvo's do they get something else...
IMO, and it's just an opinion, one reason people are buying Teslas because they are new technology and are high tech.
At the risk of sounding silly, BMW, MBZ, Lexus all seem old skool in comparison. None of them have, "My butt is cold."
"Been there done that" is not so attractive. In Silicon Valley and CA in general, new and different are attractive, especially in luxury cars.
Again, just something to ponder.
All our cars right now are in the red zones but we will buy another one from the same brand.

Yeah that definitely sounds silly because it's not true.

Not sure why any brand deserves "loyalty"? I'm spending a lot of money on this purchase, and I will get the best car for me, at the moment. I'm not getting a car because the dealership has been "nice" to me. Genesis makes a really nice product. Some people forget that the same knock on Lexus/Acura/Infiniti existed when they first came out: "Oh it's just a high-priced Toyota/Honda/Nissan."
I used to be loyal to Toyota/Lexus but their products grew too stale and once I ventured outside the brand and realized how there were other really good cars I was missing out on there was no turning back. I have three different brands in my household right now and from here on out I will buy whatever product I like regardless of brand.

It's probably because your frame of reference is from cars 20 years ago like the ones you currently drive. Like Bit said, you need to sit inside a Genesis or really any modern car now to have a basis of comparison.

How is Tesla high tech when they are so behind on features?
Brands and just brands, if you want certain things go to whoever does it best. Lexus does uniform, lasting quality the best. Others do speed better, others do advanced features better.

"Features" don't make high tech. Samsung phones are full of features, most of them suck. The software that runs Tesla's is high tech, the drivetrain and battery packs, as well as battery pack management is state of the art. They have simplified the build and production process to the envy of all other automakers who wish they could accomplish one quarter of what Tesa has accomplished. If you wanted to buy one today, in 4 to 6 months you will have one in your driveway. Whatever one thinks of Tesla or their fit and finish, they make an awesome product, which is why they have such loyal buyers who keep coming back. I could get into this more with you, but I don't want to start another Tesla discussion, if you know what I mean

Yeah kidna but no, they don't have advanced suspensions or interior amenities nor the best self drive system. GM is way better than them now and it's the first system I could go truly hands off. There are many ways they are behind, the battery and software is not relevant to me or others since range and power are the resultant factors. It's like caring about what individual engine computer a car uses....no one cares as long as it runs the engine without issues. Same deal with battery and software, the software on any car is advanced as hell yet no one cares past the car working
It just bothers me since when they first came out they were on par with the 5 series tier cars but they haven't improved since. The Germans have already moved on to full active per corner suspensions that are unreal and a truly superior drive.
I don't entirely agree with the actual premise of this list to start with. IMO, Buick, GMC, and Chrysler (the Chrysler Division itself, not all of Stellantis) are all luxury/upmarket nameplates, but are not on the list.....and should be.
