It was a low point for mercedes, the interior trim in these would disintegrate, seat/windows motors would fail, and mechanically it was one bid disaster. Suspension wise, it was very unusual - a BOF setup with independent rear suspension, so Jeep engineers probably did not fancy it. But then Jeep also had an unusual setup with a GC, where it was a unibody with solid rear axle if my memory serves me right.
There was a lot of talk of the current GC being built on the ML platform, but one of the members here (carmaker1?) explained it wasn't true.

The current gen GC is indeed not built on the current GLE platform, but the WK2 and previous ML/GLE started from the same foundation. They diverged very early in development.

100%. I like the Escalade. Still has a V8 which is great too. Although I like the size of the LX, for most American consumers, the size doesn’t fit. The technology in the Cadillac is far superior as well. It also gets, “the over the top”part correct versus the cost of purchase. Astonishingly the 4R comes with retractable running boards, but not the LX

Yeah Escalade is nice. First I thought it looked odd compared to the old one but after a while it looks really nice and mean esp in Black. I wonder why X7, GLS, Range Rover are not here. If I bought one of these full size, I would definitely go with Escalade. I don't have interest in Navigator and Grand Wagoneer. After knowing more about LX, it's no longer an interest.
