That’s disappointing about the Lucid, I was hoping it would be better than the S since it is more of a luxury car. I drove the i7, it drove really nice.
No one has made a proper luxury EV yet, some have tried/gotten somewhat close but it will take the Germans to do it. I am betting Bentley will be the first.
Bitkahuna has a point. On your trip to Beckley, there are at least three Tesla-Grade super-chargers on I-66, four or five along I-81 down to Lexington, and three or four more along I-64 to Beckley.
Where? I have done a lot of research into this and that’s just not true. There is one in Staunton and that’s it and none on 66.
Where did you see all those chargers?

Yeah I liked the Model S a lot more.

The i7 is a proper luxury EV. It’s amazing. The most enjoyable car to drive I have ever driven.

At the Dodge dealership (Just kidding)
No, seriously, the Google-map that Bitkahuna posted last night (post #6807) showed a number of Tesla-Grade chargers along or close to 66, 81, and 64. You won't see them all at first......you have to blow the map up and zero in on detail.

You realize you can’t use Tesla superchargers for a BMW right? If I wanted a Tesla there wouldn’t be an issue. None of those are anywhere near where I travel either but there are Tesla superchargers a plenty.
Fact is there is only one non Tesla high speed charger.

In an effort to address the charger-compatibility problem, more and more EVs, in the future, are likely to adopt the Tesla-spec charging-ports. GM, from what I understand, has already announced this.

This is true. But BMW has not. And last I checked, the i7 is made by BMW, not GM. So if Steve wants to buy an i7 in 2024, the availability of Tesla superchargers is irrelevant to him.

That doesn’t help me now when I’m deciding if I want a BMW I7. I’m not somebody who will just buy a car for a specific situation, I want the car I want. I think BMW likely will sign on to the NACS (Tesla charger) standard like their competitors but that’s not enough to be a factor for me now since it hasn’t been announced yet.
If I was interested in an EQS this wouldn’t trouble me because they will have access to superchargers in 2024.
I have a friend who has an iX he has had for a year and he loves it, but this is an issue when traveling. They took his iX to the outer banks on vacation and charged it at the house they rented, with a normal plug it took 9 days to charge lol. That would be me in WV with an i7…not gonna work lol.
But that shows you how much he loves that iX, they have a full size Range Rover also and he chose to take the iX with a kayak on the roof.

Saw an i7 today. Not a fan of all black, but it really has a presence. Looks substantial. And I really think it’s great that one can choose between a V8 or an electric powertrain, I would personally choose the V8. Too bad no V12.

Mercedes S580 looks good too, in a less beefy manner. Audi A8 is weak looking
I guess I'm the only one, but I'm a big fan of the restrained yet classic look of the A6 and A8. The new BMW 5's and 7's are much too fussy for me, and I think the 7's nose is a graceless block that belongs on a pickup truck.

Yeah there is a presence to them for sure.

The A8 is too pedestrian looking. It just doesn’t look like a flagship sedan, you can definitely make an argument that the 7 is over the top, but if I’m spending $135,000 on a car, it needs to look like it cost $130,000. The A8/S8 doesn’t, it looks like it could be $60,000.

my post 6807?
also checked and there's a supercharger 5mi. n. of beckley.
of course that doesn't help with a bmw. in that case i'd pay to get a charger installed at your relative's home if they were up for it!
since EA was paid for by VW as part of dieselgate settlement, perhaps they weren't really committed to it. however, hopefully its reliability will improve a lot soon.
