General Car Conversation
Memories of that nice "Eddie Bauer" logo into the leather are flooding into my head lol.
Finally my dad took the Aerostar to "get it washed" and traded it in on the Explorer. He must have forged my moms name lol
I've been looking at the new gen 5 Series that's coming out later this year and it has some styling cues from the new 7 Series. The biggest difference is the grill which is more traditional BMW than some of the new models. The interior looks very nice. I'm on the fence as to whether or not I could pull the trigger on one but my wife who isn't into cars at all doesn't have any issues with it. Our experience with the current gen 5 Series has been outstanding so the new gen will remain in consideration.
Yeah I think you will need to see the new 5 in person, IMO the 7 looks way better in person so does the refresh X7. One of my agents got a new X7 and it was parked on the street right in front of my office window the other day and admiring it for the couple hours it sat there is what made me go by BMW to drive a refresh X7...which I did then I saw the i7 and drove that too.
I remember seeing my first one in person, we were at the beach in Ocean City and it was in a parking lot, green Eddie Bauer like that one with the tan interior. My Dad and I wanted one but it took 4 years to talk my mom into giving up her Aerostar. Kind of like the position I'm in now with the Pacifica lol

Remember that blueish (or greenish) color that was so popular with those Eddie Bauers? Out of style now but they looked great then.
I'm a fan of both the new X7 and X5. We considered the X5 but as long-time empty nesters we just don't need something that big. A new gen X3 is coming out next year as a '25 so hopefully it adopts some of the styling from the X7 and X5. We probably will get something before it's available though.
Ugh I don't like the X7 refresh as much as the pre-refresh. The 5-series I can safely say looks great in person. It's definitely too tall due to BMW's convergence platform strategy and the black plastic under the grille is entirely too fussy but as whole I find the styling has hit most of the right notes. I'm looking forward to driving one soon.
I had a 1994 Eddie Bauer Explorer - Bought it in 2001 (actually sold my 1998 Maxima SE and used part of the money to buy that truck). People thought I was crazy because I was taking a step backwards in age of the car/truck but I loved it. Mine was that very deep red (maroon). Great truck. I never cared for the next generation, although I dated a girl who had the Mountaineer fully loaded with the V8 and that was pretty nice.

i find it neither generic and certainly not forgettable. the new i7 is indeed also neither generic or forgettable, but i wish i could.
i disagree. there's a family resemblance sure, by intention, but the s-class has a way longer wheelbase, width and many other details.
the w222 has a more imposing presence than the w223 which i know is something that you're looking for. i prefer 'svelte' to just 'huge' and exaggerated features like the absurd front clip of the new i7. wth are they doing with all that space with no frunk?

It could be any Mercedes, its hard to tell from any distance whether its an S or an E or even a C.
When I walk up to my 222 I still go "wow", and I just don't feel that about the 223 and for the massive money one costs compared to other cars that feeling is important. That i7 with EVERY option I would want is $133,000, an S580 with all those same options is $150,000. Don't want to spend $150,000 so in an S I would have to do without features I would like (as I do in my W222), but I need the wow to make up for that.
in other car dealer news...
the sales guy i bought my '15 jeep grand cherokee from (long gone now) called me to see if i'm interested in anything.
and the sales guy that sold (leased) me the '18 g90 and '21 santa fe has moved to a chevy dealer and called me to see if i'm interested in anything.
