So that summer I was excited to see the new 2018 Camry, even if it was a bit bolder exterior wise to every other one. Looking inside and sitting inside, I was even more disappointed. I had no interest in driving one or riding inside until recently I had a ride in that 2021.
so your whole outrage is in comparison to your 2005 or so camry.

Glad you like your car
it was a rental, not 'his' car.

... but for me, a long time owner of a Camry
one from almost 2 decades ago. completely irrelevant.

[new one] was a major disappointment and one that I have not got over in 6 years.
well somehow toyota continues to sell millions of 'em.

I was simply asking him how he found ride quality in that thing. Yes people are entitled to their own opinions but come on. There are folks out there who find a lowly compact to have an excellent ride that's smooth. If you heard somebody say a Yaris or something rode smoothly, you'd wonder the same exact thing. Oh I know what it was... the exclamation point, right? Yeah, that must have provided the "hostility" in that statement...

Whatever. His car, a rental. Do we really have to nitpick here?

Not irrelevant whatsoever. Just because you prefer newer cars and **** on older ones doesn't mean the history of Toyota's automobiles is to be ignored.

Good for them selling millions. I guess if they've never sat in a Camry before (a real one aka through 2017 model) or had extensive drive time from one that was built in that model's heyday, these consumers wouldn't know any different.

I agree with this to a large extent, but that doesn't mean they didn't ruin the Altima more lol, he drove them for hundreds of miles and we didn't...he knows.

I had a new gen Camry rental for likw 3 weeks when my LS460L was havbing the rear body repair. Its OKAY, the 4cyl engine is buzzy and unrefined, interior is lackluster and the ride is nowhere near what it used to be I agree, but I have not driven the new Altima to compare.

Nissan makes some vehicles that are surprisingly good, that 2015 Altima loaner I had was surprisingly good, my cousin and his wife, he has a Rogue which I don't like, but she has a Murano which drives great and is incredibly comfortable. Very hit or miss.

Its not that I don't like it, I do like it and if I could get one for close to what I am paying now I would just get a new one. But, its like $900 a month more and I don't like it that much.

Another car that is growing on me is the new 7 Series, leases are better on them...I would consider the i7...the styling is growing on me and from every review I would love how it drives. Just not sure how ready I am to go full EV, especially one that doesn't have access to Tesla's network...

That interior is amazing, at least according to this pic. Love some detail like the design on the center armrest. The outside though? Not so much. Hard to get into the squinted headlights and oversized grille but I suppose we spend far more time looking at the interior of the car over the exterior.

That's actually part of my reason for picking an R8 as my first supercar, it's just more sane to get parts etc vs something like a McLaren/Ferrari.
Actually you can get a surprising number of McLaren parts for cheap from your local Nissan dealer.

The interior is amazing and is for sure better than the W223 S Class' interior, the exterior is growing on me, but for sure I don't like it as much as the W223:

One came up beside me today at a stoplight, and I like it but it doesn't make me WANT it the way I always did the car I have when I see it...

Another option is I could get something totally different and get a Range Rover:

If I got a 3 row RR we could just keep the van and I would literally never drive it, we would take that on trips.

Only thing is Range Rovers aren't getting discounts. ICE 7-series are getting some fantastic incentives, i7 less so. My grandma's i7 has been a pleasure to drive and operate so far, even if the exterior remains resolutely ugly. And thank goodness I got the cashmere interior detailed when I was last down there. As expected, it is already getting trashed. They keep buying cars with very light colored interiors and then proceeding to not clean them. Their Continental GTC with a white interior had leather dye transfer stains everywhere.

What about the EQS line? If you're not driving as much as you used to doesn't that fit the bill?

neighor has a 2007 cadillac escalade EXT - one of those truck like things with a cover over the bed. certainly not a thing of beauty but he loves it.
i just found out he has 240K mi. on it, and no issues. pretty amazing. also found out he's had about 7 cadillacs in a row! used to be a regional sales guy for a big shoe maker so would take loads of samples in his big caddies to stores!

I'm with ya. They're hideous, and stacked on the lot with huge $12,500 discount stickers. I haven't seen ONE on the road, and y'all know how much I drive around. Nobody wants an ugly Mercedes, and not as many people want EVs in general no matter what the TV says. Tesla has the market cornered and they're cult vehicles and I get that. That's the go-to if you want electric.

obviously you're going to believe what you want to believe but in q2 about 20% of all mercedes sold were EVs. you don't care for the change, but that number is only going to grow.

The incentives are definitely helping - EQS sedan sales are looking good.
