We drove the GLS today, really really liked it. She loves the way it drives. That was all we had time to drive today, I got dragged into work. Super nice vehicle, tight. Not as effortless to drive as the S Class or as quiet on the highway, but pretty darn close to be honest. Her main concern is the kids flinging the doors open into other cars, but I believe in just teaching them not to do that.

We are still going to drive the other stuff but I think this vehicle is what we want.

Its just a surface dusting, hit with a wire brush takes it off and when it's on the lift I'm going to knock it all off and paint it again. It jacks up fine and only the front/rear subframes are steel, the rest of the car is aluminum

Yeah, it's like kids get enjoyment out of doing that, flinging open the doors as far and as hard as they can. It's tiresome to always remind them to be careful to not hit another car.

My wife is someone who puts up unreasonable roadblocks that you have to respond with using equally ridiculous solutions. Like, telling her I will wrap the edges of the doors with foam will placate her and then that will just never be necessary lol.

She's like "How can I possibly carpool with kids in something like this" well, everybody else does it. People do it with sedans...it will be fine. The kids ride in my car and don't fling the doors open...

I would assume that your car has Kiddie-Proof inside rear-door locks, as do most vehicles today, particularly with Mercedes-levels of safety-gear. In fact, I won't 100% swear to it, but I think it is a Federal Motor Vehicle requirement for American-market vehicles.

It does, but she doesn't want to have to get out and let the kids out when she drops them off at school, etc which I understand.

Same reason families back in the 80's had station wagons with rear facing seats (3 rows). Because kids have friends that tag along..! We just had a birthday party for my son and I had 6 boys in our LX (my son rode shotgun). Sports, etc. as you carpool to help other parents, etc. It's not all that frequent but I think anyone with 2 kids views 3rd row as a necessity, because you will absolutely use it.
