It really doesn’t, it has a two tone upper and lower dash, where the 400 is one tone. The 460 (and the 430) has wood on the dash which requires another seam, but that is all one piece. It’s just the way the interior is designed.
That side seat material around the seat controls looks nicer in the 400, but it is also hard plastic. It’s the only hard plastic in the interior in either car.
The LS460's interior looked good on the surface, but I agree that, under the surface, it was not the equal of the 400's more-solid materials. It gets back to what I have said a number of times....that Lexus started significant cost-cutting and lighter/thinner materials in the mid-2000s....and, for the most part, has continued ever since.
No, it’s not built as well, that’s unfortunately just the reality of where we are in the car world today. Nothing is built like it was back then.

Even with whatever shortcomings of the 400/430/460 interior materials we've bene discussing, all three are significant better, IMO, than what we see in the LS500. The only piece inside the 500 that I thought felt solid and well-attached was that metallic ridge of stripes/fins on the lower dash, that runs through the air vents and engine-start button, into the two side door panels.
Perhaps I spoke too soon on one thing......some of the LS500's door-panel options are quite interesting, with a solid-glass ribbing insert-option.

I don’t agree. The LS400 has a nicer design. The plastic has a nice fine grain. The plastic is one full piece The LS460 looks incredibly cheap with the way the plastics fuse together
the seams I have outlined just don’t look as nice.
The plastics here just look far more tasteful. The finger tip impressions on the switch’s are fine touch. And the separate lumbar support just adds a touch of detail that doesn’t look so cost cut.
LS400 does have the better looking seat switches, and I bet they feel better to the touch too.
LS400s were built insane too, I remember the first time I sat in a '98+. The steering wheel alone (with car off) felt like you could bounce a meteor off of it.

here is another touch of criticism that I feel is warranted. The 460 has more seams on the interior parts
Haha! Yeah those seams you are highlighting are to separate sections of different materials since in the 460 those are actual leather in most trims and all leather in higher ones vs just plastic.
You aren't going to highlight the seams in the LS400 upper dash? On the center console? Doors? Lack of real wood and full leather door cards? The extra seams in the seats?
Come on now, at least use a full leather XF40 so we can really compare what the cars have to offer.

I was going to say.....the top spec door panels on the LS500 are some of THE nicest I have ever felt/seen/interacted with. Issue is they are in an LS500.....

I am glad you see it. Lexus and Toyota used to do the little touches really well.
next time you drive your LS, looks at the plastic covers over the bolts on the door hinge. Long gone at Lexus. Your LX570 doesn’t have them.
Your LX ?

I’m going to look at this door stuff, you’re saying that plastic covers metal? Seat controls in 430 feel very high end. The LS460s seat controls look decent like something out of a nice Toyota, not the same though and I bet the button operation isn’t as silky.

hey those little things are what adds up. I still get giggity whenever the door flood lights come on in the 3GS. And the lights arnt beaming a Lexus logo either lol. Those little things add up to say that this car is special!

Seat belt buckle illumination gets me on the LS430. It’s full of
little things like that. There’s also very nice high quality padding between the seats and center console so your phone and wallet, etc won’t fall through the cracks. Just all kinds of things that are neat like that.
