CarPlay is a beautiful thing, especially when renting a car. Plug it in and all your navigation, music etc is all right there. Neither Sienna had built in navigation, either.

I went into the settings though and I saw nothing in there that said anything about CarPlay...and every other Toyota model I have rented CarPlay fires right up

Googled. all grades Sienna have standard carplay since 2019. Unless it was before then likely user error using the wrong usb port or someone previously turned off in settings as Jill mentioned

only fires up after you plug it into correct port
Googling tells me the same thing, but I sure didn't see any evidence that they had CarPlay...I plugged the phone into multiple ports too...
long shot but could be disabled by rental company for some reason like they don't want apple/google gathering telemetry data on their rental vehicles.

Possible, but the Acadia I did rent from them had it, and the guys at the counter were really surprised that the Siennas didnt have CarPlay. They gave me a Traverse afterwards that was a really low package that also didnt have it, then they gave me the Acadia I wound up renting and it did so I took that.

For a long trip from Florida, you might have actually liked the Traverse more.....it has more room inside than the 2Gen Acadia, although the original 1Gen Acadia was the same size/platform as the Traverse and Buick Enclave.

Hahaha.... that's a good one. A rental car company caring about Apple/Google taking info from me (which, BTW, I voluntarily give to Apple/Google when I use CarPlay in my own vehicle).
