I use my sunroofs/moonroofs daily. If it isn't raining, the roof is open.
The only one I've had that was a solid panel was on my 1988 Corolla coupe. It was motorized and would slide back, but did not pop up.
My first one was in my 86 MR2. It had a glass one that would manually pop up for venting, or you could remove it completely. It had mounts to lock it down securely in the front trunk. Man I loved that car.
The best one we have now is the panoramic roof in the Highlander. Really brightens up the interior and opens pretty wide. It has a motorized shade but I have never used it. My Scion tC had a pano roof too, but it was obviously much smaller. I wish my Tundra had a pano roof.

Yeah panoramics are nice. I usually have the cover opened when it's not hot. Nice way to get some vitamin D too. Speaking of moonroofs, I read some had them exploded. In particular, there have been incidents on X5 too. I would not be comfortable with this new type of roof they have on iX, just the glass itself, no cover I think. It would shatter right over you. I also read that some after had it tinted, it exploded. Couldn't confirm if it's the tint or the defective roof.
My father's old 750iL definitely had glass, although I've seen plenty with the steel sunroof. I checked just to make sure I wasn't going crazy and this 750il has glass too: 2000 BMW 750iL for sale on BaT Auctions - sold for $16,900 on January 11, 2022 (Lot #63,238) | Bring a Trailer
My 1983 Honda Prelude had a power glass sun/moon roof (slide but no tilt); my roommate's 80-something BMW 318 had a steel hand-crank sunroof.

As I mentioned above, you can still get a brand new Porsche 911 with one.
I like that I have a convertible option now lol. But I still use my sunroofs all that timmmme..
1st time ever since owning the car and it was ok, lets lots more air in which is nice cuz I roll the window down when I smoke.
Only problem is I forgot to close it when I went into the store and didn't realize, kinda felt like leaving the house with the front door open! oops lol
PS- since I don;t drive at night it feels wierd calling it a moonroof when it's sunny out so I'm gonna call it a sun roof even tho it's not, sounds better. lol
I used to ash out of them when I smoked, a million years ago. Better than cracking windows, for me at least.
