A sunroof is a solid, opaque panel, usually the same color as the body. There is no interior shade, because none is needed. I haven't seen a car with one in many years, perhaps decades. A Moonroof is a glass panel, which lets at least some light through--they are usually heavily tinted to reduce glare and heat. There is typically also a shade that can block all light if desired.
I had a sunroof in my 2015 Porsche 911 (991). It sat on the lot forever because everyone wanted wanted a glass roof. You can still get one on the 992 too.
Yeah but it's February, and Philly has had 0" of snow yet. I can wait another 4 weeks for it to warm up and open the roof. I want to use my AWD in February!
Said by nobody in Florida. lol
Spoiler
Never happened here. haha

That's cheating! lol

Enquiring minds need to know. lol

Thank you geko29.

None of these things are even remotely close. But I'll say no more.

Yeah the way you said you will reveal later seemed pretty obvious it wasn’t cost, leaking, etc. and more of a positive thing like you are getting a convertible. That’s what my guess is, maybe a C8 or LC vert!
As for moonroofs/sunroofs I had no idea of the difference, learn something new every day. With that being said I rarely/never use my moonroofs even though for whatever reason I always feel compelled to get them.
Saw a Lyriq in the wild yesterday. I really like it - I considered waiting on this to come out with the more powerful setup but couldn't pass up the deal I got on the Model Y. Much prefer the styling of the Lyriq over the Model Y - but EV's are not just about styling. Tesla still has too many advantages for me to seriously consider anyone else at this stage.
I've always (loosely) used the terms the opposite as described here. To me, the moonroof was the solid panel, not glass, with my thinking that a moonroof is dark and that a sunroof lets sun in. I know, at least for the glass panels, that Toyota refers to them as sunroofs, as noted on my window sticker for the Highlander ("Panoramic Sunroof") and my Tundra ("Sunroof").

Not sure it really matters though.
At some points I was wondering if there's a difference between the two but never cared enough to look it up. Geko's comment is interesting and he's right. According to wiki... "A sunroof is a movable panel that opens to uncover a window in an automobile roof, allowing light and fresh air to enter the passenger compartment. Sunroofs can be manually operated or motor driven, and are available in many shapes, sizes and styles. While the term "sunroof" is now used generically to describe any glass panel in the roof, the term "moonroof" was historically used to describe stationary glass panes rigidly mounted in the roof panel over the passenger compartment. A moonroof has a glass panel that is transparent and usually tinted. Previous terms include Sunshine Roof, Sliding Head and Sliding Roof."
But both my glass roofs (one regular, one pano) show as sunroof on my app. Have you seen the panoramic roof from the iX? It doesn't open, it only changes the opacity to allow/limit light/heat into the cabin. So no fresh air through this route. I feel this is the one geko is implying.

The Venza's panoramic roof is like this too. It is fixed so it cannot open, and has the electrochromic dimming. I'd prefer one that opens and has a shade.
Fair enough. But you should be using your sunroof all year round - until it downpours!
You talked me into it! lol
I will try it today.
I'm a little concerned cuz I tested it to see if it still works a couple years ago and it sounded creaky and squeeky, thinking it needs lubed or something.

Looks good, I have to admit.
Even for an EV. lol

Yeah, I'm more confused than ever now.
I'll just call mine a moon roof for now, I'm ok with that.
I'm also kinda surprised some didn't know this. Sunroof is metal, Moonroof is glass. Glass is way better. Weirdly enough in the E38 the 740 was a moonroof and the V12 750iL was a sunroof.
Though hardly anyone calls it a "moonroof" that I've ever known and just says "sunroof" including me.
