General Car Conversation
Yep. I see them and they look great but then I realize a junk 2.0t provides the propulsion so I have no desire. Not just this car.
A 2000 E320 did 0-60 in about that time, maybe a tad faster and it had a really nice V6 engine that felt silky and proper and drove luxuriously. I remember that gen well. The engine was quite nice and part of the appeal of the car. 2.0t that shuts off at lights all designed around fuel economy you just can't get around the downsides, IDC what kind of car it's in.
(Using E-Class as an example, people who bought E-Class sedans then certainly would be ideal for GLE, now much later that sedans are dead.)

before everything went crazy it used to only be an extra like $4500 to upgrade from 350 to 450 which i think is a huge no brainer

Or just flash it.........it IS a turbo engine after all.

especially considering they seem to have just did a copy and paste from the diesel model lol... and anyway that still doesn't do anything to help the 0 - 2000 rpm range where most of the time is spent
something's not right about those numbers

EDIT: Yeah something is wrong since Renntech and OEtuning don't have anything yet.....

the GLE450 however has the M256 inline 6 turbo, with an additional 185 ft-lbs on top of that from the integrated starter/generator system alone... combine that with the already plentiful 369 ft-lbs of smooth turbo I-6 torque and you're back in business lol

That said, in 2000 you could get an E55 with my example with a honkin' V8 completely NA that would do 0-60 below 5 seconds.
Good point. However most of the GLEs I see are 350s, and someone above said they're hard to get. I have noticed that there are a fair amount of V8 X7s around here, however.

and yes don't remind me of the glory days lol... the GLE450 though will do 0-60 in under 5½ seconds and actually get better city mpgs than the 350 since it does much more EV work
to have 255 hp in an SUV that weighs nearly 5000 lbs just isn't enough... and it's from a 2.0 turbo so when you're out of the boost it's just complete slug mode
i think it's nearly 7½ seconds 0-60, a brand new GLE shouldn't be getting out-dragged by a 15 year old highlander lol

These 3.0 engines are no way sports/track fast but more than enough fast for the streets IMO. And yes, their MPGs are crazy too. Thanks to the 48V system.
Guess what? The RX feels much less responsive and more sluggish. If you take this GLE to compare with others, you need to pick the right apple to compare. Not that GLE owners would want to drag race a 15 year old highlander but I just looked it up... Highlander 3.5 V6 is 7.8s. Lol

Enough is a very relatively subjective word. I don't know how much you know about the GLEs to make such comment but IMO GLE 2.0 is not sluggish for what it is. It's not fast like 3.0 and alike but it is far from sluggish for its size and weight. Did you know the RX350 is about 300lb less with a V6 engine? Guess what? unless there's some sorcery involved i don't know about, below 2000 rpm there is no power and the 9 speed isn't the most responsive... so unless you're on top of the gears in manual mode there can be a real delay between when you put your foot down to the power coming in
I have a coworker that has a GLE350, he thought it was a 6 cyl. Most people have no idea what kind of engine the car has, they buy the 350 because thats what the dealer has.
Having driven the 350 and 450 the 450 transforms whatever product its in. Honestly? In a GLE or GLS I don't think I would get the 580 because the 450 is that good.

Not about power, its about refinement. The 580s are super rare, basically order only.
Ok but how many car buyers really knew what the naming meant, when it actually referred to engine size? I bet it's way fewer than you would think....
